Gremlin Bells
Need info please. Could anyone tell me or find out what I am to do with my wifes Gremlin bell.
On Saturday, 10/18/2008 the wife and I were riding back home from Daytona. She on her "06" 883L®, me on the Road King® We were on I-4 West Bound just outside Sanford, FL. in the fast lane when she started to run out of fuel. She slowed to about 45 mph pulling into the emergency lane. I was in front of her and saw her pulling over so as I pulled over coming to a stop, I looked back and saw the wife and bike going A$$ hole over elbows. The good news.... The wife took a trip to the ER VIA ambulance, 8 hrs later, she walked out with road rash and a broken hand.
The bike was considered totaled.($7,897.00 in damages) I retrieved her bell today. The question is. Since the bike is totaled, does she get rid of her bell? I had heard that when a bell is on a bike and the bike is totaled or the rider sadly goes on to his/her last ride, the bell is to be removed and never used again. If the bike is repairable, the the bell rides another day.
I want to make sure we don't tick off the gremlins.
Ladies, find out from your better half, friends, whomever. I want my wife to stay safe and happy. Thank God for her bell. It and her helmet kept her safe enough to come home with me.

I would put the bell on your bike in addtion to the one you have now. Your wife walked away with a few scrapes. That is one bell I would want to keep.

I agree, walking away from an accident like that I would sure re-use the bell.

Not trying to be a bummer, but the idea of the gremlin bell is to keep the gremlins away.
It is apparent to me that that particular bell is defective.
It is great news that your lady is OK, but still she got attacked by a gremlin. That bell is defective.
Do you know what a BFH is? That bell needs one.

I got a question...I sold my bike to a friend of mine and left the bell on it. Should I buy him a new bell and get my old bell back?? I did have an accident on that bike so that bell could be defective too, or it had an expiration date that I missed.

It depends on your perspective.
My good friend, rather than buying me a bell, bought me brass balls. I hit a deer about two weeks ago. I didn't even go down.
He swore the balls he gave me were jinxed, but the way I look at it, if you have a collision and you walk away, you're lucky and the gremlin bell is too.
I'd put the bell back on the bike. To me it's lucky.

the idea is to not have anything happen, no gremlins.
much easier to walk away from no gremlins.
if you have an encounter with any gremlin with a gremlin bell on, it's defective. Or you need to take an advanced rider course.
and don't forget about all those lonely bells waiting at the dealer for a good home.

I had my bell dutifully removed from the mangled remains of my old bike and kept it warm and safe until the new bike arrived, whereupon it was given it's new ride.
Like Mungo, We lived through the crash, so the mojo is working. No need to buy a new one

Ding Ding
I was on a long ride with a friend. We both went down in some gravel on a turn going 45 50. I made it my bud didn't. On my way home my bell fell off. Job done. New bell was given to me the next day out of the blue. I don't know if I belive in the little G men but I like the little ding ding.

I would keep the bell. She is safe and home and I think it's what faith you put in the bell.....not what kind of a bell. So if she had faith in that bell and it kept her safe and it did...yes keep it!
You never did say why the bike went A$$ hole over elbows?? Did she loose control of the bike since it had no gas?

I'm glad she's safe and hope whatever totems we use when we ride continue to keep us all out of harm's way.

As the wife was reaching down to select the reserve she traveled a little to far, the front wheel left the pavement. With one hand on the bars and her body leaning over the left side of the bike, over she went. Like I said, I was in front of her and I myself was slowing and almost to a stop when I turned around and saw her A$$hole over elbows. I swear to GOD, I thought she was gone. The impact was so severe her half shell helmet came off with the strap still taught.

When I sold my Vtx 1300 I kept the bell, then Andy started having problems with my old bike, I put the bell back on it and the problems went away... I think he created those problems because it was fine when I had the bike.... My mom bought me a new bell for my Streetglide though.
If the bell worked for her then I would keep it but then again she did wreck the bike so it could be a defective bell, its all how you look at it

I would keep it...but not put it on another bike. I feel like a bell should only ever be attached to one bike. Once that bike's life is over, the bell should be retired. I would find a nice photo you have of the bike and put it on a plaque and screw the bell to it...kind of a memorial for the bike.
And get her a new bell when she gets a new bike.
