Passengers

Anyone have any tips at carrying passengers? How to mount? Stopping with the extra weight?

I replied in your other thread. How long have you been riding? Do you feel confident?

I've been riding for about 2.5 years. About 30,000 miles now, I feel really confident and it's like something I could do! Some of that is just to try to adjust the "biker image"

passengers

You must tell them when to get on/off...Mounting is done {when you are ready} with the passenger stepping on the near peg, using your shoulders to steady themselves and step over the seat to the other peg. When dismounting {again, when you are ready} they use your shoulders to steady themselves as they stand on the pegs, then swing a leg over to the ground. Problems will occur with the passenger getting on/off when you are not ready.
...Once your mounted up, detemine where/how they will be holding on, consider acceleration and braking. Then go do some figure 8s, with the passenger LOOKING over your inside shoulder. You must tell them "simply, look over my inside shoulder when we are turning, NO leaning".
...With a good passenger you will only notice the extra weight. Close the throttle a bit sooner and don't tailgate at all. The last thing you want to do is scare them.
Be sure they are dressed to ride.

Just my 2 cents.... IF my passenger is tall enough (5'-6" or more), I prefer that they do NOT use the foot pegs to mount the bike. When a passenger steps on the peg it puts all of their weight off-center & I have to hold up the bike while they get settled. Instead I stand up (to give them room) & have them throw their leg over the seat while they are still standing on the ground. They can then pluck their fanny in the seat without shifting the bike sideways.

It's more about being balanced than how heavy. If the passenger works with you when you ride (leans when you do, stays centered when you are, etc). Than it is pretty easy...but if they fidget around when you are stopped, you will know it right away.

Practice in a parking lot first, and you will probably be ok.
