At my own risk

Way back in ancient times, the early 1960's, I don't recall females on Harleys or any bike, for that matter, except as passengers. In these contemporary times with gobs of clean chrome and dazzling paint on Harleys, it is indeed a pleasure to take note of the independence taken by women in owning and riding their own motorcycles.

Okay, so you've heard all of this before. So what? I needed to make this proclamation and so I have.

Ladies, to see you cranking the trottle says that in some ways, America is headed in the right direction. I am proud to share the road with you. But don't go so fast, you scare the hell out of me.

Yeah he probably heard of them as most of us have, but they were a token group. Now days it is a regular thing to see the gals riding. When i joined my former hog chapter in Raleigh NC in 1994 most of the LOH were passengers. 6 years later when we moved away, almost all of the LOH were riding there own bikes.

The irony here is that women riders are so much more in your face now.(that's a good thing) The first time I was on a Harley I was seventeen years old and this really neat girl in the bar offered me a ride home.(drinkin' on a fake I.D.) She had a Black and magenta Heritage. Yeah I admit, I was riding cupcake. But anyway why do we make such a fuss about women on scooters, they hang out with us all the other times why not have their own. The only thing better than having a girl I like riding on the back of my bike on the way to the beach is having a girl I like racing me down I-95 on her own scooter. So the bottom line is keep riding ladies, I got yer backs...

Now, I promise to stay off the ladies forums...LOL

A major factor I believe is the fact that the bikes are much more reliable and much easier to start.
No kicker anymore and you don't have to know how to wrench and carry tools like back in the day.
Same reason there so many more riders in general than there used to be.
No chain to lube, no tinkering with the valves or carb, just push the start button and go.

I was brought up in Richmond, California until 1950 when we moved into the 'burbs. I was fortunate to witness the Richmond Ramblers Mororcycle Club during and after WWII, and the start of the Hells Angels in Oakland as they hung around a Harley dealership on East 14th St.

In the 'burbs a CHP motorcycle cop took me for rides on his Indian. That was back in the days when cops were friendly and MC Clubs weren't anything more than a club.

Truth is, I never saw a female cranking the throttle until the late sixties when a formation of women came down highway 12 headed for the frog-jumps in Angel's Camp. I left a six-pack sitting on the curb because I jumped on my rig and followed them, dropping into the rear of the caravan.

There is no image on this world more pleasing to the eye than the form of a female; there is no thrill in my hobby of Harleys than to see a female on her own Harley. Women rule!

Happy to be riding

I dunno why so many more girls are riding solo now but I'm glad we can and that freedom is out there. It took me awhile to learn and I'm ever so happy I did!

I remember seeing a funeral procession for a well know biker about 66 or 67, in Pasadena,Ca. there must have been 20 clubs and one was all women. They were acting the part of funeral escorts. When that goddess in skintight leather and 5in heels on her boots stopped her Sportster with about 12in over forks, in the middle of the intersection to stop traffic, our preteen jaws dropped, and so did the straights sitting in thier cars.

I have since seen a lot of clubs riding, but never so many in precision. They gave him some sendoff.
