Honda VTX 1800

I have the oportunity to pick up a very low milage 2004 VTX1800R for a very reasonable price. Anyone have one of these? I was not looking for one, but this one just kind of presented itself to me. It seems like a nice bike.

Great looking bike. What year is it, and what kind of seat do you have on it? Thanks.

Thank you, It's an '03, and that is a custom seat I made with the stock seat pan.

Have ridden with a couple guys that have them. Solid bikes, strong motors and shaft drive is zero maintenance.

I wan't really looking for one. This one crossed my path and the price seems right. I might just have to do it. You only live once.

mate of mine has one (and in fact bought it after seeking my advice on whether to) and it is a nice bike.

Sean has put a lot of miles on it both in the hills and on tour.

It's the standard version and despite it's bulk its a very fast machine with excellent brakes.

The footpegs have recently (by necessity) been replaced as the owner ground them back to approx half their length from spirited cornering.

Sean is a big fellow and rides the bloody thing like a motard, you wouldn't believe the scrubbing on the tires....look like a sportbike on a trackday.

Believe it or not she's not bad at lifting the front wheel waaaayyy off the deck either!

If you'd like to see it in action check

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENYc_Yfqk1U

apart from a recent unfortunate mechanical upset which resulted in an expensive engine / gearbox repair job it has been bulletproof and to be fair to the big Honda, I don't think it was really designed to be ridden as hard as it is.

one thing to bear in mind, unlike a HD once metal begins to disintegrate in this motor it spreads through the entire engine / powertrain and can lead to extensive (expensive) repairs.

even bearing that in mind its still an 8/10 bike IMHO.

Well, I bought it. I've only just ridden it home. (about 20 miles) So far, I'm impressed with it. Lots of power and very stable. The Cobra pipes are too load for me, but they look great. I'll probably just make it into a solo ride. My GF sat on the back and she was sitting way up high. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

IMO the Retro looks much better as a solo ride anyways. Congrats you will love it!

Very nice! I noticed that it has polished fins, is it a spec 2 or 3?
