I have a 1998 VT1100 ACE, and I am having some issues with sluggish power during acceleration. When I start the bike with the choke engaged, there is no problem when I goose the throttle. However, once I disengage the choke and goose the throttle, the engine bogs down. It will do this really bad through 3rd gear or so. This is my first bike, and I'm hoping this isn't too serious an issue. Anybody have any ideas? I'd appreciate it.
It sounds like your main jet is clogged in the carb. My Honda dirtbike did the same thing. Fuel cleaner will usually not clear it out. Pull the carb and clean it out.
