Overheating problem with Honda VT1100C

I have not had this bike too long, went on a bike ride last weekend, about 100 miles in total. At end of ride noticed the temp light was on, did not hear the fan and had coolant leak on the ground.
Decided to take bike to local Honda dealer for 12,000 mile service. Everything seemed fine, went on ride yersterday only about 50 miles, same thing happened.
Any ideas out there??, I have heard the fan come on a few times, but does not seem to be constant??

Thanks.

Just ride north about 1000 miles, it will run a little cooler.

Not familiar with that model of bike, but cooling systems are pretty simple. There should be an engine temp switch that controls when the fan kicks on. Start by checking that. There may also be a thermostat in the cooling system. It controls the flow of coolant in and out of the radiator. If it is stuck open or closed, the result can be overheating. Other than that, maybe check your coolant levels and make sure there is no air bubble in the system. Is the bike still under warranty?

Thats okay bud, I could tell it was humor... I think the problem is one of 3 things, water pump, thermostat or combination of thermostat and fan sensor...

Combination of thermostat and fan sensor...

That would be my guess too.

If the bike overheated, then keep an eye on your head gaskets. Easiest way to check is to watch your engine oil. If it get's murky looking or smells like coolant, you got a leak. If there is even the smallest leak, you need to get it fixed ASAP. Coolant in the oil will ruin an engine very quickly.
