Popping and Backfiring in 02 Yamaha VStar 1100

I have a 2002 Vstar 1100. Ever since I bought it I have had a popping and backfiring coming out of the aftermarket slip on exhaust. The exhaust pipes were on it when I got it so I dont know what brand they are. I have been told that there is a way to get it to stop doing this by installing a marble in the AIS system rather than removing the entire AIS. Does anyone know what size marble to use and where to put it? I read something quite awhile back about removing the AIS system but I really dont want to do that.
Thanks for any help,
Billy

not sure about that bike but i know the kawasakis have these things called reed valves that need to be plugged up so they dont pop with aftermarket pipes. some kind of pollution control stuff . good luck

Not familiar with that model of bike either, but you might check the exhaust for leaks from the headers back to where the slip ons fit onto the pipe. You might also check the AFR to see if you're lean. On a Honda, I learned that an overly lean fuel mixture will burn the valves and the symptom is popping on decel. Good luck!

It is the sensor. I had the same problem with an 01. I forget what I plugged it with and it worked great. no more backfiring. No need to pull the whole system out. Check out the star forums. I'm sure you'll find your answer there.
