158 MPH in NH

Was just told a story by a NH buddy of some chucklehead clocked by a NH State Police chopper going between 140 and 158 MPH. The article claims the police could not believe their own speed indicator and contacted a local dealer who said this particular model was capable of 190! Some things defy sense and sanity.

I just went into the Honda forum and was shocked to see how many people have played at that speed.

That speed is great until some 9000 year old changes lanes with no blinker in their caddie with Florida plates doing 40 on the highway.

Sorry pet peeve of mine. (Both the idiots riding that fast and the slow cagers)

I've touched max speed on everything I've ever owned. Truck, car, bikes. Just so happens the Geezer Glide is wide open at 112mph with a tail wind and being drafted behind a semi. So the land speed record is safe for now. After 80mph, it doesn't matter anymore. If you wreck, you get about the same result at 80mph as you do at 300mph. Just less to clean up, the higher the speed.

between 140 and 158... may sound fast, but most 600's are capable of those speeds...

they would have really thought there was something wrong with their equipment if a Busa or new ZX14 came screaming by...

really? i have done 145 mph and didnt think it was any big deal.

yknow, you can do that and more on the track safely.

that said, one of the worst wrecks i have seen the aftermath of was at 25mph. so it goes.

Piece of cake now days, I have seen 180+ indicated on several occasions aboard my R1.

And that story about the cops calling a dealership to confirm the speed of the bike is quite old. It refers to a fella who got a ticket on lakeshore drive in Chicago a few years back aboard a CBR600, I believe he was ticketed for somewhere in the neighborhood of 160mph which at that time was a record for the USA. The cops contacted a local dealership to question if that bike was even capable of that speed & the dealership confirmed it. The guy auctioned off the bike, was on TV, etc.

Supposedly he was recently killed in a bike accident.

Natural Selection will take care of those sooner or later, and that's the just the way nature works. I just hope he doesn't take out some innocent bystander...unfortunately, that's also the way nature works sometimes!
