Moto Guzzi California?

Anyone around here own or ever ridden the Moto Guzzi California or California Vintage? Thoughts/opinions? It looks like a good second bike for those times I just don't feel like taking the full dresser, and I'm thinking that I may want something other than (gasp!) a second Harley.

I know I should probably look on a MG forum, but thought I would ask here before asking the Euro/fanboy types.

I love Moto Guzzi bikes, nice bikes, they are made at Mandello del Lario a beautiful little town in the middle of the mountains, between Swiss and Italy.

The California standard is easy to ride, powerful and reliable, and the california vintage is a very nice retro bike.

Pepe, I agree with you about the styling of the Moto Guzzis! Back before I bought my Road Glide I was lusting after a MG Norge. While I am really glad that I bought the RG, I can't seem to get the Moto Guzzis out of my mind, and both versions of the California really appeal to me.

FWIW, there is an online Sportster forum that I am also a member of (XLforum), and it seems that a lot of the H-D guys over there also own Moto Guzzis.

I have had 3 guzzi twins, including a cali 1100. They are fine bikes and handle the twisties better than a harley. The latest bikes are built to a higher standard than they used to be, and one would make a great second bike.FWIW, I still have a guzzi as my second bike, but it's a 1971 Falcone single!

Thanks Mickyvee, that's just the kind of information I was looking for. There isn't a Guzzi dealership anywhere near me, so I am going to start looking for a used one somewhere nearby. I heard that they don't hold their value so well for some reason, and that it's better to buy used anyway.

You are correct! They don't hold their value too well, which makes them a great used buy. They are bombproof mechanically, so if you find one which is good cosmetically, and all the electrics work, get it bought!
