yamaha roadstar fuel mileage

A friend has purchased a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar and is unhappy with fuel mileage. Can anyone out there with this bike please post your fuel mileage average. This bike is equipped with aftermarket exhaust. The bike pops off idle when hot and then stalls. It needs to be rejetted so if anyone out there has had the carb rejetted please list your pilot, needle, and main jet sizes for your bike if it is similarly outfitted. Thanks for any help you may provide.

I averaged 40-43 mpg with a lot of city riding. Best I ever saw was 48.

The Road Star Riders Forum (a Delphi forum) is the place to ask this question. They are the best place for ANY info on a Road Star.

RoadStar MPG

I usually get low to mid 40's. I have Vance & Hines Long Shots, after market air cleaner (S&S + K&N), ported intake. I will have to look up how I ended up with the jetting but I bought a dynojet kit and put their needle in it. If it pops bad check for airleak around the intake - they are notorious for this. My setup is a little rich but I live at 7,000 ft and when I go down the hill it leans it out a tad.
