The 2009 Yamaha V-Max

I just saw some photos of the new 2009 Yamaha V-Max. The website lists the wet weight at 683 pounds. They don't have a horsepower or torque listing, but I have heard 202 hp out of 1679 cc's.

I think Yamaha did a nice job with the design of the bike, but the MSRP is 18 grand!!! I bought a new V-Max in 2000 from the dealer for $9999.00 Maybe it is just me, but I can't see paying that kind of money for a Yamaha.

I'll admit, I can remember dreaming of the V-Max when I was about 18. At the time, I believe it was the strongest production bike made. Then, at about $6,500, it was way out of my price range.

Think it has something to do with the devaluation of the dollar?

I was wondering that myself. I haven't followed the trend of the USD as compared to YEN over the past 12 months, but I don't see too much of an increase in the 2009 Yamaha R1 as compared to the 2008. The MSRP on the R1 is about $12,400 which has been pretty consistent. You have always been able to get a liter sportbike for 10 to 12 grand since the late 90's. That in itself is pretty impressive. Unbelievable performance for a relatively cheap price.

So, I wonder why the V-Max is so darn expensive! Anyway, I like what they did with the functional ram air scoops. It still looks pretty mean. I will have to check out some cycle mags to see what the performance numbers are. I am getting too old and would likely buy a street glide for that kind of cash.

Just purchased VMax today...It's a real hoss to say the least...Rides like a dream and very comfortable...I've grown fond of my '08 SG but couldn't resist another horse in the stable.

Highly recommend this bike for those who want the power/speed.
