I'm glad they are moving the employees to the auto plant, but it still sucks that any company has to close a plant in the US.

Seems to me that Victory has really picked up steam in the last few years. Arlen ness has jumped in and is selling in the same show room. When we went to Daytona last fall he has an awesome show room next to J&P and Rossmeirs. Sad to see them go as well. The Gold Wing has been a great alternative to the HD oil puddle as far back as the 80's. They have quite the following.

The chances are you will see more changes form Honda in the future. Their plant in Japan is the most up to date facility you will find in the motorcycle manufacturing business. They are moving the Ohio plant to Japan that makes the 1300/1800 vtx's and goldwings. In a few weeks Honda will have their open house showing their new toys and changes in their motorcycles. We will see if the 1800 vtx is still alive, I am sure the 1300 will still be made but the 1800 is questionable due to sales and demand. Even the Goldwings have took a hard hit in sales. When I bought my 07 Ultra Classic there were only a few hundred $$ difference. I do not like the GW appearance but they sure do ride good.

The GoldWing plant in the US is going to be converted into auto production. Big demand for Honda cars here.

Picked up steam? Last yearly sales figures I could find for Victory Motorcycles (2007), it was estimated they sold aprrox. 10,000 motorcycles that year. Victory usually just gives a percentage of sales increase number rather than actual units sold. You can always tell the ones who aren't selling many bikes because they give percentages instead of actual sales numbers. Let's say you sold 7,500 bikes one year and the next year you sell 10,000, sales increased 25%. That sounds better than the actual number of units sold.

And yes, it's sad that Honda shut down the U.S. Wing factory.

I was curious: Can you please give the sales figures for 800cc or greater bikes for both Honda & HD for as far back as the 80's? That might shed some light on what a following is.

Also, I had 35,000 mile on an '05 Ultra by HD. It did not use or leak oil. Now my '07 at 15K is following that bad example. How can I get my HD to develop one of those puddles so that I can fit in?

BTW: Nice clone. Imatation is the sincerest form of flattery, yes?

I actually find that a bit short sighted by the Japanese.

As fuel prices rise, it's going to cost more to ship their bikes over here, and more and more people will be seeking more economical means of transportation.

Granted, the GW is a high end Honda, but in terms of a means of transportation, i.e. lockable and watertight luggage space, radio, etc... it's a pretty good compromise.

I thought 2008 is seeing a huge increase in the number of bikes sold because of gas?
