Yamaha stepping up the competition
http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/...1/0/image.aspx
It's priced too high but its not something that needs upgraded out of the box.

They are still putting a cassette player in the Royal Star Venture (thier Flagship). Can you still buy cassettes??!?

That's (IMO) one of the best looking metric bikes I've seen. 113" engine w/ 123.8 ft-lbs torque off the showroom floor. The Japanese are getting better and better at Harley's game.
This reminds me of watching Toyota, Nissan (Datsun back then), and Honda steadily improve their styling over a decade or so starting in the 1970's, to match their engineering. Darn near killed the Detroit Big 3.
I gotta tell you, if I was in the bike market, I'd have to take a hard look at that Yamaha. Like ThatOldBike said,

It's fine with me as it comes, but considering that, I don't think it's priced too high. Looks to me like I could buy that and leave it alone--no further expense. Just ride it.

Looks nice and at that priced will be interesting to see what Honda comes up with based off the VTX. One thing that would concern is fuel range. 5 sp+ 1800cc+ and a 4.1 gal fuel tank? could you get past 120 miles

Honda bikes have been dead in the water for years (much to the frustration of a Honda dealer/buddy of mine) while Star/Yamaha has really been trying hard and building what HD should have. Kind of a parallel in the 4 wheeler world; the public wants Chev to make Corollas and Chev keeps trying to feed us Vegas and Sunfires. And Kowalski; they just don't quite get the cruiser market thing.
That is a lot of bike for the dollar; couldn't come close to those specs with a Harley for that money...but I'll keep mine. Buying a metric cruiser must be like buying a love doll; I would imagine they're somewhat satisfying but not quite the same thing.....and nobody marries a love doll but lots of people sure are married to HD.

That is a great looking bike IMO. The best looking Japanese cruiser to date.

$14k vs. around $17k for a similar-spec Victory vs. nearly $20k for the Rocker with the silly seat? That's priced too high? Now that the economy is slowing and houses can no longer be used as ATMs, I expect we'll be seeing a lot of these on the road.

Not a bad looking bike but in the end it's still a Hardley!

Very nice -- and I'm 100% HD and forget everything else -- but Yamaha really built something that I'd consider. Really impressive specs.

I'm sure the quality is there for the money, but it's still an import.
A thought I had while attending street vibrations when I saw an import bike was, "I just feel kind of sorry for them". The rider has the look of a Harley rider and he's still riding a Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki ect... Just very sad.
