Ninja question

I parked next to a Ninja today at work. I've never seen one up close so I looked it over.

Anyway, just out of curiosity, what the heck are the black plastic handles on either side along side the engine about knee height for?

Those are like engine guards/crashbars. They protect all the fairings/bodywork if you drop the bike. They actually work as one of the Marines in my unit has them and accidentally tried them out. I have also seen riders put their feet up on them when riding like highway pegs. Understandable considering the cramped riding position of sport bikes.

Thanks! I thought I had seen them on other manufacturer's sport bikes.
