rode a 1250 suzuki today and......

One of my friends got a new bike about a month ago. He is 80 years old and I dont know what possessed him to purchase this bike. He wanted me to ride it and tell him what I thought. He is unhappy with the bike. So i was more then happy to rip around on it for alittle while. The bike seemed fast as heck. I popped a wheelie when i hit it alittle coming around a corner ,scared the turds outa me. I gave the bike back and told him to go trade it in before he gets hurt. Seat is to high for him ,bike is way to jumpie for him(thats giving it gas as well as letting off the gas) . I told him to trade it in for some suzuki cruiser style bike, but he may sell it and get a 883 sportster . In any case Ill take the big smooth power my 103bb delivers over that style of power any day of the week !!!!!!!

Was that one of the new Bandits? I used to have an 2002 Bandit that was jetted and piped. It was good for about 170 mph on a good day. I was wondering how the new one felt with the fuel injection. I think this is the first year for it.

Are you describing a crotch rocket? Can't imagine an 80 year old being able to ride bent over on one of those. I sure don't want to.

On one hand, maybe he's thinking, "I'm friggin' 80, what do I have to lose?" On the other hand, he may not be thinking that clearly. I would tend to agree that a crotch rocket isn't a good pick for an octogenarian.

No, the Bandit is a "standard" motorcycle. About the same ergonomics as an FXDX Dyna.

the bandit is a sit-up, standard type bike, like a roadster... very detuned 1250cc 4cyl... makes about 77tq from 3800-6200, and 98hp from 6800 to 8800...

Can you compare power of Suzuki 1250 to 103bb Harley? they should have almost the same power (about 100 HP)...

That anything to do with motorcycles is still a concern to an 80-year-old is just fantastic. At 67, I'm a baby next to him and still have my children and non-riding friends on me all the time to stop riding. Good for him that one of his concerns is which type of motorcycle to ride. We should all be so lucky.

I found it to be uncomfortable. You do lean over a bit and the conrols are straight under you (not forward). My wrist hurt after 10 minutes. The 80 year old owner said he had to stop on a ride cause he couldnt pull the clutch anymore. I didnt think it was anywhere near the comfort of a Dyna or my fatboy. More like a Buell. I think he might have been thinking weight(500lbs?) when he bought this bike not realising that the seat was so darn high. He could handle a cruiser style that weighs more with a lower center of gravity much easier. Im gona go take a look at the bikes there and see if I can help him pick out a more suitable bike.

The engines are very different. The 4 cylinder *** bikes are all kind of high strung. They are usually very smooth and will wind out to max speed very quickly. They are very fast but have very little low end grunt.

The Bandit I had was running about 120 hp but it felt like a sewing machine running. My HD in contrast is running about 100/100 hp and torque. It does not have nearly the top end speed but it has more of a rip your arm out of the socket low end. It was hard for me to get used to the HD engine. I wasn't sure I would keep it until I'd had it for a couple of months.

There also is a huge difference in chasis. The Suzuki felt perfectly stable running at speeds of 150 mph or more. My HD feels like a tractor over about 80 mph.

I own a 2003 Dyna. There is no FREAKING way your going to tell me a Bandit has the same Ergonomics as a Dyna. NO WAY!

The Bandit is a naked sport bike.
