Indian Releases 2009 Line Photos/Specs
For those who have not yet seen it, Indian (at least in its latest attempt to bring back the brand) has released specs and photos on the 2009 line.

Enjoy!

Those aren't photos, they are "artist's renderings." From artist's renderings to production in a year? We'll see. . . .

Thanks for correcting my language...should have been more careful. That is correct, they are renderings. My bad.
Price point will be an issue, no question. I must admit, I do like the fender design, though. The great thing about bikes, to each his own.

The prices are crazy! I like the Chief Vintage, but not for $35,000.

i guess somebody there picked the wrong time to stop sniffing glue. $35,000 for another derivative Indian (in name only)? Looks just like the last round of bikes that you can pick up nowadays for a song (albeit used). Long swoopy fenders and a restyled evo does not an Indian make. Somehow, i expected more. IMHO, the last real Indian was made in 1953.
Again ....this is just my opinion!!!! Don't get butt hurt.

I got out of Indian the week after Gilroy closed. Only lost half my shirt and the motor crapped on the buyer six months after he bought it from me. Thankfully, I transferred the extended warranty to him. Beautiful bikes, questionable design and QC. Terrible market for another ressurection attempt. The listed price is 10K too high. The market value of the brand was sucker punched the way they pulled the rug on dealers and owners. Maybe if they hang in there at least seven strong years, show a profit and stable dealer network, I might ..... Then again, never again for me.

I actually think they are going to do well. They have already put more money (about $75 million) into fixing the poor engineering of the Gilroy Indians that it is a totally new engine 105cu in. Comes with a Baker 6-speed, I believe a stainless steel exhaust. Lots of chrome that cost a lot more on a HD. They will be doing a limited production run starting in August 2008.
I like the big fenders, which happen to be an option on some of the models.

When they've been around a while and their product proves to be viable, maybe they'll be a contendah.
For now, the management team has been making promises for years and IMO - lacks credibility in a major way. The product is unproven and overpriced for the market, and a lot of ppl were left with bitter tastes in their mouths when they last folded.
A neighbor had one with the PowerPlus motor. It didn't make the power and he had ongoing engine issues. Overall, the bike wasn't up to the quality standard of HD IMO and he couldn't unload it at a loss fast enough.

The Vintage Chief was HOTTTTT!!! Even the color was incredible. The Turquoise and White was nice too. I love the retro styling. Totally Awesome!

If Indian couldn't stay in business before, when the economy was in better shape and they had credibility to their name, how in the hell are they going to make it today?
I think the only thing saving motorcycle manufacturers right now, is the high price of gas, ironically. Because of that, people are riding their bikes to work more, or are buying bikes to save on gas. It's one thing buying a less expensive Harley with a warranty and a dealer network you can trust. Quite another buying an overpriced bike that may or may not have any support down the road.

2009 Indians
I just saw three of the new 2009 Indians at the National Ralley in Branson, MO. in mid May. The new owners (Stellican) were there. They gave us a great bar-b-q, and we had a Q & A session as well.
The bikes have come a long way since the Gilroy days, dual disc brakes, fuel injection, 105 c.i., six speed, and tons of chrome.
I sat on the bike and the fit and finish was excellent.
HOWEVER...they big objection I had, and still do, is simply the price. Indian said they are coming out for the "premium rider". In otherwords, the guy who has a bunch of bucks to dump on another rendition of the Indian legacy.
The basic bikes starts at $31,500, but a loaded Vintage will set you back over $40K. As much as I love my T3 Indian (still have 2 H.D.'s), I would never drop that much coin for one.
I still feel, that with all the improvements Indian has done, a Road Glide, Street Glide, or even a dresser are still better buys for the money.
I wish Indian success, but in this economic climate, times may be tought. They may sell the first years release of 750 bikes, but how many people out there will be in line. There are only so many buyers of bikes in this price range.

The way I see it, there are going to be alot of vacant buildings for lease/sale in about 3 years.
The motorcycle fad is over. The soccer moms and wannabee dads have already scared the crap out of themselves and have sold their bikes. The market is flooded with overpriced used motorcycles of all makes. I hate to be Mr. Cynical, but the timing of this latest resurrection attempt couldnt be worse.
