I've been watching for developing info on the Indian. I have wanted one since I was a kid. I'll buy one too but, I don't want the first one. I'm going to wait and see for a bit after they hit the street.

I think they are smart sticking with the in house PP that won't blow up like the Gilroy ones.
But, I believe they are making the same mistake Gilroy did by trying to hard to stake claim in the Original Springfield Indians.
Drop the "since 1901" crap and just be what they are, Another New Indian Company.
I gotta believe they would be more accepted than those who have failed before.

They are taking $1000 deposits, but have no firm pricing or dealer network yet, that hasn't changed in the last 6 months.
I've always liked them , but I'll wait till they are a viable entitiy before sinking any $$

I'd like to see them back in the marketplace, but we'll see how this plays out.

I think they have been a little too slow so far on coming out with something. The first models are now not coming out until the end of 08 making the release another 12 months behind.
As far as powerplants go, the gilroy plant claimed the 100" PowerPlus was "their own" but after they went under S&S released many round barreled v-twins with the destinct Indian "I" on the jugs. So all Gilroy did was buy them and make some mods to get close to the 100 ci claimed.
I do remember attending the dealer show in Indy the year the assets were being auctioned off. The firm selling the leftovers had several 2004's and there were a couple of 2005 prototypes that were baggers. I do not think the Kings Mountain is going to try that (yet).
Roy was correct when he fell out with the Company back in 2000 after they decided to add the Spirit and Scout and give the Chief the PowerPlus as well as make everything in house to include the saddles. He tried to convince them that it was a bad idea because there was not the customer base out in the market to support that much. Sure enough the Company lost its backer(s) and went the way of Excelsior Henderson.
Maybe the Chris-Craft boat folks will get some Chiefs out there soon.

Has there been any activity? Allegedly they are testing bikes, but the pics they posted online look like the same German engineered top heavy setup that the 01-03 bikes had.
How far are you from their flagship dealer? Anything going on there as well?
I made a mistake of test riding a 2000 model and fell in love. Except the dealer was trying to sell me some BS instead of the bike. I vowed to have either a 99 or 2000 one day unless the company makes another low slung beach cruiser.

OK first let me address the slow release, they are taking there time making sure the new Indians are going to be built rite, they will be only producing the chief in various models with limmited production.in the $25,000 range Yes the PP powerplant with fuel injection will be installed this engine was re engineered and has been remilled ,The problem with the gilroy PP had with there motors is almost the same issues you see now with the TC 96 runout on the crank berring ,I think it was more extreme on the Indian PP only lasting on average of 17,000 miles. there are 3 engine builders out there that are rebuilding the PPs they are called the Big 3 most chief owners had exstended warentys and they are very happy with there 110 ci rebuild .Ok now as for the S&S round motors you see around , these motors were built by S&S for the 2004 Indian Scout witch only 40 were produced . They were 92ci motors with round cylenders to mimick the true Indian motors ,these are excellent motors real stump pullers they were built for the 2004 line up witch never got produced.they are not PP motors witch only came on the chief 2002 and 2003. 1999-2001 had the S&S 88ci motors on the Chiefs. The Scouts and spirts had S&S 88ci motors for 2001-2003 .witch are great motors the only draw back to these engine they came with very mild cams only producing about 88hp and 89 lbs of tq. But install a w-6 cam for $225. drop 68 main jet in the super E and stick 2 torpedo baffles in the stock exhaust for $80. and now you got 104 hp and 100 lbs tq . Over all the Gilroy made Indians were not bad bikes . I have one and very happy with it the S&S motor is relible and fast .You would have to drop a few more bucks in a harley to get those numbers. Dont get me wrong here I own 3 harleys ,but the indian gets a bad rap and does not deserve it.from speculation and half truths. Gilroy Indian filed chapter 11 in 2003 , there production for 2003 was 4000 units, they tooled up to produce 30,000 bikes a year waisted tons of money on hiring excecutives from big auto companies like merceedes for big bucks , they ate up the money at the top ,I am amazed they lasted that long.

It sounds like you know your Indians 2Wheel. I'll have an Indian some day. I've wanted one since I was a little kid. I am perfectly happy to wait while they build a proper engine with the bugs worked out.

The new owner has a good backround in reviving old companys that fall in to chapter 11,his track record has been very good so far . Reba Yahts, Criss Craft boats, Partly the reason for them building Indians in KingsMountain ,is that they also expanded to build a yaht division for chriss craft , he brand in some very qualifed motorcycle enginers to do the redisign of the pp engine,I feel this will be a quality motorcycle. As far as the new Chiefs go they are ready and will be released in august. they do have a website that will keep you informed with quartly reports, and some pic of the new chief.
