S&S 551 Easy Start cams Thanks Hyperformance!

I was speaking with Randy a few weeks ago and the subject of the easy start cams came up, I commented I would like to try a set and it turns out he had a set he sent me (at no cost) and I had a donor bike for this experiment, an 09 Street glide stage one with 2 1/2 baffle Rush Slip-ons and stock headpipes. As you can see much like the SE 255's they run out pretty quick up top but I will say they are a much different cam as far as running and tuning, a very nice lopey idle and the easy start does exactly as advertised, starts with no effort no matter what the temp. The bike runs out very well and it is a nice upgrade for a heavy bagger, very strong through the midrange like the dyno sheet shows. These were both 5th gear tests.

No big deal on my part, S&S gave them to me to try and I don't think I could have done better than BV Bob to critique them.

I just got off the phone with Randy - King Of Cubes and I just have to say that he was more than helpful! Very knowledgeable and friendly. He answered all my questions and put me in the right direction regarding the 120R I'm getting for my bike.

It's really nice to have a Site Sponsor who is so accomodating!!!

THANK YOU RANDY!!! John

Very respectable numbers considering such a basic change .... What tuner (type) did you use on this set-up? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Thanks for replying ... I've been on the fence as to which cam to choose and was close to going with the 255, but was concerned with regards to hot starts and hard cranking ( didn't want to pop the heads for compression releases ). After reading your post I just may have made a decision. I appreciate your advice and time. "Uncle Larry"

46u is an unknown quantity at this point
What was the compression ratio I am guessing stock and where the easy start really necessary in this motor. Guessing it was a 96 inch and the compression ratio is 9.2 to 1 is this correct? Did these cams make more starting compression then many? I know they have a short duration. My eyes and old computer are so bad that I cannot read the chart.
Thanks
Jeff

I believe that what you are referring to is corrected compression. There is more information on the subject of compression and how it is affected by your cam here:
