2005 Twin Cam

Started developing a low speed miss. Took it to the dealer. Vavle stem seals are shot. Anyone else had this problem. Possibly a factory defect???

yeah, some 05 have an issue with consuming oil...there's a pdf out there somewhere (HD bulletin) explaining the problem. I also think Springer had a great post showing some of the issues with the seals. Has your bike been burning oil? Do a search on oil consumption and see what you come up with.

My question is what did the dealer say about it?

I have an '05 Fatboy.
Valve guide seals went out at about 4k miles.
It was a warranty issue. Dealer replaced them with
"new and improved" seals. Now I have over 20k miles,
and burn no oil.

Check this

http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=81857

Here is the thread that I started a couple months ago and the valve seals are a known problem. They still will tell you that they have to pull it apart to tell you for sure that the seals are the problem.

well now..

I purchased a BRAND new set of SE performance heads, sent them to Steve at GMR for porting, cc, and equalize them. When he sent me back the heads there was a platic baggy taped to them with the factory valve seals in in and one of them was inverted. He said it happens all the time. Mass production at its finest.

What do you all suggest when your dealer tells you it's normal, and gives you a different excuse everytime?

It's normal...
Syn 3 leaks more out the air cleaner...
You need to clean your filter more often...
Perhaps the rings haven't sealed...FYI, the bike has 8000 mi...
Twin cams use more oil...

I went for a 500 mile ride a couple of weekends ago. I just cleaned the air, AN big sucker set up. When I got back, the thing was soaked...I took it into the Dearship...driping wet, and got the "its normal", "where else is it going to vent into" speech...
