Rejetting T C 88 Help

I have a 2003 fxdl dyna lowrider. What is the best way to rejett. I was told I could bump up the pilot jet to a 46 and shim the needle with 2 #4 washers. Anouther brother said use the dyno kit. I be going with Vance and Hines 2 into 1 exhaust, and the Arlen ness big sucker. Thanks in advance.

instead of shimming, get a sportster needle #27094-88.

You might just want to get a regular jet kit

Steve is right, dynojet kit has its own emulsion tube for the jet. A regular HD MOCO jet won't fit in it. It might be hard to find if your on the road and need it.
I also agree that the sporty needle will work, however, it will hurt you gas mileage more than shimmimg the needle will. Sporty needle wasn't designed to be used with an accelerator pump.

The Sporty needle was indeed designed for use on a carburetor without an accelerator pump, that's why it works so good. Shimming the stock needle is not the same as using the Sporty needle, however. The straight section of the Sporty needle is smaller in diameter than the stock one and that's where you are up to about 1/4 throttle...in other words, where you do most of your riding. Once you get on the taper at larger throttle openings, shims helps. As far as mileage, I ran a Sporty needle and a 45 slow jet in my Dyna for 3 years and could get 52 mpg riding conservatively on 55mph roads.
Best thing to do is buy a Sporty needle, some shims, a 46 and 48 slow jet and see what works best for you. At worst, you're out a few bucks and some time. At best, you know what works for you and what doesn't.
