Faulty air cleaner????
I have just been told that the air cleaners that come with the screamin eagle
air cleaner kit allegedly can break up, allowing particles to be sucked into engine.
This is news to me, has anyone experienced this problem ?

The ones w/ the blue rubber around the edges were the bad ones.

Mine was the blue one and the edges separated. K&N has an element that will fit.

Mine had the black edges, and half of the rubber deteriorated(maybe from the heat?) at 1000 miles. I replaced it with the K&N HD-0800. (direct fit on the SE kit.)

K+N or the zippers a/c is the only way to go. drag specialties also makes a K+n equivilent in their book. It's easier to get but quality wise in the middle of S/E and K+N.

Put the zippers on tonight. It uses the HD back plate so if you don't like the Zippers AC you can swap to the K&N. The K&N filter with Backing plate uses a rubber velocity stack so it went off the list for me. The only thing I don't like about the Zipper is that it sticks out a good inch further than the stock AC. I also considered the Ness Big Sucker. This one also sticks out further than stock.

Hi!
I know I´m just another voice in the chorus, but I thought I´d bump this thread up, because it may save someone some grief.
I had read here on the forum that the gasket on the blue paper air filter element that comes (came?) with the Screamin Eagle stage 1 air cleaner kit tends to break up and that the pieces can get sucked into the engine (can´t find that original thread).
I had that kit on my bike since new and was worried, so I ordered a K&N filter element just to be sure. When I removed the old SE filter element I was shocked to see that it indeed was starting to crumble and that I was probably not a minute too soon in exchanging it.
If you have that air filter on your bike- GET RID OF IT NOW!
