need advice ( mechanical moron)
I admit that when it comes to the actual workings of my 2001 Harley, I am basically retarded.
I bought the low rider new back in 2001 and had the big bore ( 95 ci) kit installed along with the *** carb, 203 cams, sreamin eagle air intake, pipes etc...
5 years later and the bike still has only 2600 miles on it. ( have a little fishing boat which often gets the nod when I get a day off) Last summer I put about 300 miles on the bike and never changed the oil so its been two years since the oil has been changed. Even though the oil probably only has 1000 miles on it - it has been sitting in the bike/gargage for two years. I am obviously going to have it changed and the bike checked/tuned but was told that having the oil sit for that long can create deposits etc....
I was even told not to ride it to the dealership ( about 20 miles) by this self proclaimed HD owner. Is it ok to run like this or should I get the oil changed here at home before bringing in for a tune
second question is the tires ? Only 2600 miles but five years old...........is age a factor on the rubber ? Rather be safe than sorry and wanted an opinion if I should change them even though they appear close to new
( plan on using it this summer so any advice would be appreciated)

Change your oil, oil filter and gas before riding it. Whatever crud is in it will circulate into the pump, cam plate and piston jets. Your tires are probably ruined also. Do your bike a favor, sell it to a more caring person and use the money to buy a bigger boat.

DanD,
Don't listen to them guys, theys just pulling your leg about selling the bike. We all know that you really should park it in the living room, polish it up and share your investment with all your friends..........

You will learn that half the guys that post here a full of - - - -.
If I were you I would locate and contact your local HD Dealer and have him pick the bike up with a Pick up or trailer and take it to the dealer.
They will replace the tires, change the oil and filter and replace the gas in the tank. Not a big deal..............worth every cent to have it done correctly if you are not familiar with the procedures.......Keep the bike and enjoy it when you can..........

DanD -
If you keep the bike and use it as infrequently as you have to this point, you might do a little research into long-term storage for things you can do to avoid the problem you have now. For example, add stabil to your gas, store the bike on a lift in order to avoid flat-spotting the tires, shoot oil mist in the sparkplug holes, etc. I still have to think grease in places like your swingarm and steering head could be drying up, so if steering gets odd or wobbly at some speed, and/or you hear squeeks from your swing arm - get them checked.
Better yet - make it a point to ride it more often. Once a week to work, an early cruise on a weekend morning or a post-fishing trip cruise... Anything is better than letting it sit. My .02.
