Road King Gas Mileage
For the Road King riders in the house:
What kind of gas mileage have you gotten (pre-mod)? If you have any mods what was it post-mod?
Any ideas about what the best way to increase your mileage without decreasing performance would be(no need to tell me not to throttle it so hard because that ain't gonna happen )
I have a 2003 Road King (FLHRI) I rode it this weekend and got 37mpg running it about 80 - 90mph (but it was also about 45 degrees outside which probably helps). Back in October when it was 75 degrees I was only getting about 34mpg.
I have a stage one kit and Screaming Eagle exhaust.

I have an 02 RK. Fuel consumption was around 40 mpg for Stage I and Stage II as long as I kept it under 80 mph. Above 80 mph fuel consumption dropped to the low 30's mpg.

Got an '05 RKC. Just got it back from having some engine mods done, and I don't know yet what my new MPG will look like. But stock, over 8k miles, I averaged about 47 MPG. I don't beat on it, so my mileage might be a little bit higher than some folks would submit. Still, you should be in the ballpark of that with a stock bike.

05 RKC with a Stage 4 Engine Upgrade and H-D 6 Speed Tranny.
<75 mph getting 42-45 MPG
>75 mph getting 34-37 MPG
It did take three trips to the Dyno before we got the Engine/Tranny combo correct though.

I've never checked. I am just so damned happy every time I fill the tank for $12.

SE PRO IIs slip ons
65-68 mph consistent 45mpg since I got the DFO dialed in with the SE PRO IIs
Ran 80 mph with a truck once.
About SH!T myself when I looked down at my almost empty tank.
27mpg - This was before DFO dial in and with Sampson Rolled Ovals
Would like to jump to 6 speed tranny!

45 mpg, loaded with luggage, with passenger -- below 75 mph.
Just like the others have said, speed makes a huge difference. 80 to 85 mph and it's in the low 30s. It's an 02 with the baffles punched out and the mixture screw adjusted - otherwise stock.

Gas Milage
04 Road Glide 95" pre cams was about 39-41 MPG running at average speeds 75-85. After cams still about the same, but saw as low as 34 MPG, but I blame that on getting on it to often to try out those cams. My 6 speed tranny also helps for those higher speeds.

So do you think punching the baffles increases the gas mileage along with the sound

Mnymaker - no, I don't think the baffles had any effect on mileage, only wanted to say what's been done to the bike. Mixture screw I adjusted so it would warm up and not cough and sputter. Taking the center plugs out of the mufflers was because I wanted it to rumble a bit, though it's still quiet enough to be able to talk to the passenger without any problem.
My 1992 Softail has drag pipes with about 3" of slip-in baffle in each one and anti-reversionary cones + cams and a lot more. It often gets over 55 mpg. I do think the engine and exhaust mods helped mileage there. I have no idea on a Road King, nor do I want it that loud.

totally stock FLHRCI a low of 42mpg in the city of Detroit and 49.7mpg in the country on a state highway (at 60 to 65mph) with the wife on board.

Mileage on an '02
I didn't check mileage before mods so I can't help there. SE A/C, Stage 1 download, Wild Pigs with 1-3/4", DFO (which I need to set a little leaner). I run at about 75 and get 37 consistently. Most of that's on the highway without a passenger. Good luck!

When I was at stage 1, about the same for me. Only 1 tank so far with 95", heads and cams and that wasn't good at about 28 but trust me, I was twisting that throttle like crazy!!! (CUZ IT"S SO FUNNN!!!!)
