Registration Fees to go up in NC.
Currently, registration fees for motorcycles are $9.00. They want to raise it to $15 (a 66% increase) to meet the budget shortfalls. This is an attack on vehicles that save fuel, reduce road wear, and reduce traffic congestion. Please write your state Senator and tell them that you are offended by this increase.
20-87 Passenger vehicle registration fees.
(6) Private Motorcycles. The base fee on private passenger motorcycles
shall be fifteen dollars ($15.00); except that when a motorcycle is
equipped with an additional form of device designed to transport persons
or property, the base fee shall be twenty-two dollars ($22.00). An
additional fee of three dollars ($3.00) is imposed on each private
motorcycle registered under this subdivision in addition to the base
fee. The revenue from the additional fee, in addition to any other funds
appropriated for this purpose, shall be used to fund the Motorcycle
Safety Instruction Program created in G.S. 115D-72.
Text of bill can be seen here on this page. Click on "Edition 7" to see text.

Actually in favor
Hi, I am moving to Charlotte NC in the next few weeks. I just purchased a home there. I think that raising the fee is although an expense that none of wish to happen is a good idea if it keeps the riders safety course available for new riders. My girl did not know anything about riding bikes when she took the course, so I took it with her. For a new rider this is the best thing I have seen or heard about. Where do you think the money comes from to provide bikes and gas for these students? The 25 dollar registration fee does not even cover the cost of the classroom and instructors for the course. If we want people to be educated and have some idea about what they are doing on the road with their new bikes I dont think this is so bad. I think it's a good cause. I don't want some newbie with no eerience at all trying to learn how to ride their bike on their own to come crashing into me from behind while I am out on my bike do you? The state of Ohio has only had the course available for the past couple of years and they have seen an 80 percent decrease in new rider accidents in two years time. Another six bucks for this is no big deal.:nfu2:

Don't get all bent out of shape and start flipping people the finger. Your from Ohio, and I'm from NC. Down here we know, not think, and I know what the laws are here and what bill they are trying to pass. This ain't Ohio.
The state is not increasing the fee for riders education, which is currently at $3.00, the state is raising the registration fee by $6.00 dollars. This $6.00 additional money does not go towards rider education.
The cost of the classroom and instructors for the course come directly out of your pocket when you sign up for the class. The $3.00 helps offset some of the cost associated with the classes in communities where attendence is lower and provides new funding to open classes at other community colleges.

This highly irritates me. Not only do you pay this increased fee but you also have to pay property tax on your motorcycle as well as your cage(s) and your home/land. I love NC, but the government and the fees here are getting a little bit out of hand.
As for SE2fatboyguy moving to Charlotte, NC, well he'll come to know taxation really quickly. Good ole Mecklenburg county! Oh you'll get your taste of taxes there! Wait till you get your house taxes. You come to know why we call it the Republic of Mecklenburg. Moving to Charlotte or anywhere in Meck.... Bad idea! Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, Stanley would have been a much better decision. I just hope you made a good choice. Nonetheless I hope to see you on the road some time!

Hey this guy said it not me....and besides I lived in Charlotte for over 8 years and I am moving back.......I am not from Ohio.haha. I was only saying that the increase may piss off a few but it may be good for a few, what sucks for some is good for others. Anyhowe the new prices are still far below the national average.it just cost me 96 dollars to register my bike up here in Ohio, to me 35 bucks is cheap.so it just depend on your perspective.

Complaining is part of the process. Sounds like you must approve of the increases in your state, if not you would be writing your state Senators and the House of Representatives and ask them not to vote on the increases. Have you let them know? If not, your input on this thread is worthless.

I also let my senators know how I felt about gay marriage! Alot of good that did, We are turning into another Provincetown here. I really appreciate driving down the roads and having my kids watch two Fa....Excuse me Gays.. Must remain politically correct....kissing on the Stowe walking bridge while two others take pictures. Nice!!! *TIBS* Hey Jockey, please tell me how to explain that to a 3 year old, and do it in a manner that does not sound discriminatory, or politically incorrect, and yet get my personal opinion accross! Anybody!!!

Rick, I'm glad that you do voice your opinon on the motorcycle rights. Thanks for stepping up to the plate when others are sitting on their asses bitching about current laws and bills being introduced to take away more freedoms.
Now, I'll never understand the gay crap and I agree with the *tibs* statement. I too, have let my senators know how I feel on the subject. You can explain to your 3 year old in any way you like, this is still America and you still have the right to voice you opinion. I wouldn't worry about being discriminatory or PC on this subject. They gays don't care if they are PC in front of your children do they?

2.35 acres ... new houses there are over 20k in taxes... but they are in the 800k to 1.5 mill. to buy. His house is a little over 3200 sq ft . Nothing special just has owned it for about 30 years.
