Florida House Bill 6009 brings back helmet use

A newly elected representative has introduced his first piece of legislation. HB6009, if passed will require motorcycle use in Florida again. If you live and vote in the state, please contact your reps and let them know what you think about this.

Rumor has it Michigan will be introducing a similar bill. Fought hard for freedom here and with a lot of newly elected representatives we'll have work to do to keep it a free state.

Brings to mind NC helmet law. Mandatory have to wear one but eye wear optional(unless that's changed). They got some humongous insects flying the airways down there at night.

Being pushed by insurance companies as part of Obama-care.

We lost the freedom to choose down here in LA after a hard, long battle with the stroke of a pen by that safety nazi bitch, Blanco.

I mostly wear a helmet, but I think it should be a decision made by the rider.

A helmet bill may get introduced in Michigan but isn't expected to go anywhere. Expected to be tabled, not brought to vote.

Those in Florida should support your state ABATE organization as well as contact your representative.

A couple years ago a fellow I know was hit from behind. He shot straight up and landed square on his helmet. Poor boy stayed at the hospital for 3 weeks then months of therapy. His father and brother sold their metrics vowing to never ride again.
Last month I saw Roger at a gas station on a rocker. His father has a SG and brother a RK. All is not lost.

I haven't heard of anything brewing in NH. To be honest, I love the feeling of freedom sans helmet and ride that way mostly, but have been wearing it more of late after my mishap.

Let those who ride decide.

I believe everyone should have the option. As for me, I've had two incidents, one in 72. head on with a car. and then T-Boned a deer 3 years ago. My helmet tells the story.. Glad I had it on.. My melon isn't as hard as it used to be.

I am good with it as long as they also require full roll cages and helmets in cars.

There are times I do wear a helmet, mainly at night when it is getting cold out. If I have to ride into the city the last thing I want is the added visual and auditory restrictions a helmet adds.

As others ahve said, let those who ride decide.

I would hate to see it happen as would most of my Florida friends. When I visit there I appreciate the freedom of not needing to wear a helmet, as I do in SC and Pa. These are the only helmet free states I have ridden in but hope to add more to the list.

I stated in another thread that I as well as others with the company I work at have worked at Clint Boyer's recently. While one of our crews were there Clint's father took off on a Harley without a helmet. When one of the guys asked him about no lid he said I don't need no damned helmet. Not sure how some people get away with it.

There were a couple times where after spending time in any of these states, after returning home that I left without a helmet but turned around as soon as I realized it was not on my head.

Time to be concerned. Like when the Civil union law worked in one state it took on a life of its own. Same can happen with helmet laws.

You may find this hard to believe but, mandatory helmet laws are not about safety.... at least not to the state.... if a state enacts a mandatory helmet law they receive over 100 million dollars annually from the federal govt.....my state was a long hard fought struggle to lose the lid law,,,,,, members of the group were at every statehouse function where helmet legislation was on the ballot,,,, in all those years,,, not once was safety the concern they always spoke of the loss of funding....so it's money, again...I would advise you fight it now before the helmet laws gets attached to a bill that will pass a vote,,, make them remove it to lesser bills so the larfer more important issues will pass, without a helmet law attachment...and keep it down and keep fighting......if i wore a helmet, I would fight the helmet law.... I stand up for smoking in public, and I've never lit a cigarette....its not so much the act,,,, it is the loss of freedom that bother me,,,,, the legislators chip away at daily, for our own good..

One would think with the number of head/facial injuries in car accidents , they would try to pass a full face helmet requirement , just like race cars , especially for the children!

But in many states , it is in fact ILLEGAL to wear a helmet in a car , because it obstructs hearing , peripheral vision , hides identity , etc.
