Future motorcycles don't need helmets

They say in the future motorcycles will have so many safety features that helmets will not be needed. Leathers and other safety gear won't be needed either because the motorcycles will "anticipate obstacles, and alerts the rider to potentially critical situations. Its self-balancing system means it will never tip over". So in the future the motorcycles will be able to sense a deer that is heading toward the road.
Here's what I'm talking about: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jaclyntr.../#6a06ee7f2cdf

What do you guys think?
In this world of "safety first" who could be opposed to a motorcycle that can't crash. Well, I for one think we can have too much safety. My first vehicle was a motorcycle and I've been riding ever since. I don't think I would enjoy it as much if it was perfectly safe.

I think that any machine the prediction's true about won't be a motorcycle.

I didn't think any motorcycle requires a helmet. Where would it wear it?

Or is this slang for rubber?

Otherwise I always feel it is up to the rider of the motorcycle. No matter how safe the technology may make the new bikes, there will be people wanting to wear a helmet and people wanting to force everyone to wear one.

We are not talking about 2018 model year motorcycles. We already have cars that drive themselves. You may have heard about the self driving Tesla that crashed into a truck that was turning left in front of the Tesla. When most vehicles are self driving, there will be far fewer of those crashes. If self driving cars send out radio waves telling other self driving cars they are there, it will be easier to avoid them. If a self driving car sees a truck coming from the opposite direction and the truck does not identify itself as a self driving truck then the car may be extremely careful knowing one of those humans is in control.

Self driving cars are here. Self driving motorcycles are not too far away. In 20 or 30 years I'm sure they will be having far fewer crashes than the human controlled vehicles of today.
And when I talk about 20 or thirty years in the future keep in mind only 10 years ago people would have said you were full of crap to say we'd have self driving cars in 10 year.

I looked at your quote of my post. I couldn't find any mention of 2018, so I guess we agree on that.

Once bikes are self-driving, I'm sending mine on all the rides I can't go to cause I'm working.
Do a video feed to my VR device, post that crap to facebook.

But I don't need a helmet now!!! All this safety stuff is irritating..... I really enjoy having riding skills, safety takes the fun out of it.... can you imagine, getting ready to do a high speed run through some serious twisted, and the bike won't let you ride above the posted limits,,,, junk
