So Loud, I'm in Australia as well and have been chasing Amsoil. I emailed them direct and they said Aerolexus is distributor
- see http://www.aerolexus.com/pages/first_page.html

However, the website doesn't run and it might be aviation lubricants only.

I have found a US made oil called Torco V Series which I run in my transmission (75W-90). It's used here by a harley shop that builds very fast harley racers. I drained the SYN3 as soon as it was put in after reading this forum.

lol - i had syn3 in the bike last year - what a wonderful experience, the bike made noises like it had a couple of loose marbles in the drivetrain. so im back to fossil oil, but i havent given up on synthetic only on syn3...

there is always mobil1 for cars - some of the other riders recon is very similar to mobil1 for v-twins (but without the extra costs)

so where in australia r u ?

Not sure about using Mobil car oil in bikes - some say the additive package for cars isn't what's needed for HDs. I've asked Mobil to tell me if their V twin oil is available in Australia - their website says it is. I've now reverted to HD fossil oil in transmission after a noisy, clunky run on Torco V series transmission lube. I'm only prepared to run SYN3 in engine but would move to Mobil 1 V twin If I could find it.

Aussie riders- see below - message from Mobil. I rang them and it's available in Canberra at least, and most likely in othe capitals via a distributor. You have to order it in in 6 packs of 1 quart.

"Thank you for your inquiry regarding availability of Mobil 1 V twin, The product is available through out Australia. I have no idea where in the country you are but would suggest that you give our free call number a ring and I would be happy to advise you, as to where near to you it is available.

I wouldn't put car mobill 1 in your bike - see advice below from mobil:

"What about Mobil 1 V-Twin oil? How is that different from Mobil 1 for passenger cars?

Mobil 1 V-Twin oil is designed for air-cooled, large-displacement bikes. Because of their design, these engines can generate very high localized oil temperatures and high overall bulk-oil temperatures.

As you know, a typical air-cooled V-twin's rear cylinder gets a lot hotter than the front cylinder – it's a matter of airflow. When it's hot out and you're stuck in traffic, the oil temperature in your bike climbs rapidly. Above about 250° F, conventional motor oil is going to break down. Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic oil is good to above 300° F.

In addition, Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 is a higher-viscosity grade than Mobil 1 15W-50 for passenger cars. And Mobil 1 V-Twin has no viscosity index improvers, so the oil is very "shear stable." Simply put, Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic oil won't break down as readily as conventional oil.

Like Mobil 1 MX4T, Mobil 1 V-Twin has high levels of phosphorus/zinc and the same high-temperature detergent technology for superior wear protection and engine cleanliness, even at elevated oil temperatures.

With Mobil 1 V-Twin oil, you can go the full length of the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals with ease.

Theres a Mobil distributor in Darwin who sells Mobil 1 for bikes, i had only just bought a 1 litre for the gearbox, much better gear changes now and without the loud clunk. Was $12.60 for a litre. Was also a Mobil 1 Syn gear oil there for $26 a litre.

Wasnt thinking straight and didnt buy enough for the primary, so thats this weeks job.

I'm now using mobil full synthetics in all 3 holes:
V twin 20W-50 in crank
75W-90 in tranny
15W-50 4T racing oil in Primary

Have a read in latest (Nov 04) Aussie "Heavy Duty" mag about oil test comparisons - SYN3 comes out on bottom in a big way compared with mobil. No way am I letting dealers put that stuff in my machine. I now do all my own fluid changes after overfilling and stripped drainplugs by the "expert" dealers.

get more power & protection for your HD

To test the ability of AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils and
NGK Spark Plugs to increase motorcycle horsepower and
torque, AMSOIL INC. submitted AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic
Motorcycle Oil (MCV) and NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs to
Cycle Solutions Inc., one of the top motorcycle dyno tuners
in the U.S., for a pair of motorcycle dynamometer tests on
late model V-Twin Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Segment 1: Baseline Test
In order to establish a baseline, each bike was equipped
with conventional oil and spark plugs and placed on the
chassis dynamometer until operating temperature stabilized.
Next, each bike was operated from idle speed to wide
open throttle (W.O.T.), with horsepower and torque continuously
recorded at the rear wheel.
Segment 2
The conventional motor oil was removed and replaced with
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, and the
dynamometer test was performed again. Test results show
the AMSOIL 20W-50 provided horsepower increases of 2.41
percent in the first test and 2.1 percent in the second test,
while torque increased 1.42 percent and 3.1 percent respectively.
Segment 3
The conventional spark plugs were removed and replaced
with NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs, and the dynamometer test
was performed again. Test results show the combination of
AMSOIL 20W-50 and NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs provided
horsepower increases of 3.7 percent in the first test and 6.9
percent in the second test, while torque increased 1.8 percent
and 5.2 percent respectively.
