Question Putting together a tool pouch: any suggestions?

You never know whats gonna happen out there, but you cant carry everything. So far I have:

set of hex wrenches
crescent
flathead screwdriver
needlenose pliers
knife
elec. tape
wire
zip ties
one extra fuse

since I havent had to use it yet, is there anything else that might come in handy?

This is for an evo, by the way. No fuel injection here.

Just a thought but since you plan on screwdriver, why not spend a little extra cash and get one of the good ones that has multiple bits in it? Might even be able to get some metric/standard bits that fit it and use them. Check out tool kits online(Snap-on has a pricey one) and see what they have. Go but the same stuff and save a little cash. I keep my tools stored in a shaving kit bag.

Do a search on this forum and I'm sure this has been covered before(mulitple times probably).

Bulbs for headlight, signal lights and a couple of small hose clamps..I always keep $20 bucks, my HOG membership # and their phone # in there also for roadside assist.

Might want to forget the needle nose pliers and get a set of standard pliers..they are a little more usefull.

Add in a flashlight to that kit too...all the other tools don't help you much if you are stranded out in the middle of nowhere w/o a way to see what you need to fix!

Oh and in addition to hex, you might want a few torx in there too. Unome has a good idea, get the screwdrivers that take different bits, that'll save you alot of room in there!

you really don't need a whole set of wrenches.i carry,9/16,1/2,7/16 and a 10"adjustable. 3/16 and 1/4 allens, spark plug socket, get the kind with the hex end on it and use the crescent to get the plugs out.i don't carry any bulbs cause you can get them anywhere, and they don't like being in tool bags with tools.if the headlight goes out just switch to whatever beam you have left, high or low.have a set of spark plugs too.wrap the plug boxes with a wrap or 2 of duct tape to keep the plugs from getting beat up from the tools vibrating.i use the $1.29 champion plugs.short phillips screwdriver.

Keep the maintenance up on your bike. *before* you go.

Carry a cell phone, your American Express, and road side assistance insurance.

Wrenches or Sockets

I am new to Harley ownership...first ride in 13 years...and I hope I would never need it but like belagirl I'd feel safer. Would wrenches or sockets be a better choice? Are there nuts/bolts I may need to reach that I won't get to with a wrench?

This summer I returned to riding Harleys after a 25 year absence. I did exactly what logical said, I looked at what Cruz Tools has in their Great American tool kit, then went to Sears and bought the same tools, but Craftsman brand. They had a sale going on so I paid about $80.00 less than what the Cruz Tool tool kit cost.

Who sells the tools like CruzTools and others

Every place I've looked I've found wrenches but as per standard they are the same on either side (one open and one closed).

Where do I find the stuff they list (example 5/8 & 3/4) on the same wrench?

Not sure why you would need a spare fuse, unless you have a old beast, Harley has been using circuit breakers for quite awhile now.
As for other tools, probably just a screw driver handle that takes bits, and an assortment of allen and torx bits, as well as a set of open end wrenches and a pair of locking pliers, and of course the Duct tape, spare spark plug and sparkplug wrench. Any thing else that happens on the road beside a fouled plug or loose nut or bolt, you problably cannot fix anyway without a lot of diagnostic equipment.

I remembered another thing.....
Instead of the needle nose pliers, get you a set of needle nose Vice
Grips. They make a small (6" or so) set. It works wonders.

Ride Safe,
