Have we been conned by SYN3?? I read on another chat page that Harley-Davidson is having second thoughts about SYN3 in the transmission. Has anyone had a bad experience with SYN3 in gearbox?

I just changed the oil my tranny out after running Syn3 for 2000+ miles. It felt smooth initially and then just got rough and "tinny" in the last month or so. I drained the tranny oil and found the plug covered with metallic sludge. I also drained the Crankcase oil and to Syn-3's credit the plug was clean. I replaced the crankcase with Amsoil 20-50 and the Tranny with Amsoil 75-90. Right away I could feel the difference in the feel of the tranny. Its butter smooth.

Anyone try synthetic gear lube in a Sporty trans/primary? Does having the clutch share the oil rule out use of hypoid (gear) lube?

I just drained the SYN3 out of my transmission - keep reading too much stuff about how bad it is in there. I've put in TORCO v SERIES 75W-90 TRANS OIL. Anyone got any info or experience of Torco v twin oils?

Kim,
Do not use a gearlube in your bike that shares the tranny fluid with the primary. You have to use a fluid that is wet clutch compatible.

Wondering why the clunk would come back at 4500 miles as you stated.

I too ran Syn3 in the tranny......for about 200 miles. Just wasn't comfortable with it....too thin to me. Went the Red Line Heavy Shock Proof and man what a difference. Everyone I ride with changed and all felt the same way. Tranny is slick now. Red Line just coats everything real good.

no more clunk...
was running mobil 1 75-90 ($9) in the tranny on a wide glide and when gears were shifted, always heard a clunk and sometimes neutral was hard to find. i switched over to mobil 1 75-140 ($14) and now i have a very smooth, click sound when i shift and neutral has been easier to locate. as hot as the motors run, i can't see running any type of motor oil in the tranny..
how many post does one have to submit to get off the fng status??

Hoot51,
If you don't have thousands of replies in you you could try the shortcut and:
go to the top left of the page and click on "User CP",
then "edit profile",
then edit "custom user title" and be anything you want.
Don't share this info with anyone, it is double-super secret!

Syn 3 is made for harley by Citgo who is Hugo Chavez..I'm stunning Harley promotes it as Citgo has had virtually no real testing on this Syn. My expieriance w/ it was the same as most of the negative posts..now do Mobile v-twin, or Amsoil, and Redline in tranny. However, I have run Amsoil 20-50- in the tranny w/exceptional results here in the Ca. heat. www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great forum on lubricants

Just my two cents worth. George likes Amsoil I like Mobil. George says his first choice would be Amsoil then Mobil. George sells Amsoil for a living. I think I will stick with Mobil.

I made a living as an aircraft mechanic long before I started making a living from Amsoil and if I made my living from Mobil I would be tempted to still use Amsoil if it didn't cost me my job. With that said though Mobil is a very good product.

I still don't see any way a small firm could ever have the R&D money Mobil does. I changed mine over to V-Twin oil at 500 miles (8500 miles ago) and have already done the same to the wife 03 Low Rider.

Are you kidding? Exxonmobil Corp., compared to Amsoil, a multi-level marketing company. That should tell you everything you need to know.
