that's great to hear. I've only ever got to ride without a helmet once and that was in Hawaii, it felt so good. Can't wait till we actually can.

It's good you have a choice, but who would ride without a helmet? It's stupid and dangerous!

Guess it's comparable to driving without a seatbelt though, another thing I don't do, even if it weren't mandatory...

If I can say something. As a cop, unfortunately I have investigated many motorcycle accidents. All were fatalities. In every case a helmet would not have made a difference. I look forward to September 4th and will ride to work lidless. Flame away but it is my choice.

When this was announced earlier this summer I asked why they set a date for September and what would happen if you were to get stopped for ir before the law actually changed. Any Penn folks have any experience with this situation?

BTW, Just read where there is a bill pending in Mass for an Adult Choice law. I live 45 minutes from New Hamshire and 30 minutes from both Connecticut and Rhode Island, all helmet-less states. You can figure out what choice I will make!

Since Sept 4th the wife and I have already taken one ride out to Pymatuning and I will again next weekend weather permitting. It was great to finally be able to ride in Pennsylvania on the main roads. I also spent $$$ in Pa that previously would have been spent back in Ohio. As a police officer I have also seen some bad motorcycle accidents and I still feel helmets would have made no difference. I haven't had to wear a helmet for 16 years now and couldn't imagine what it is like but I do understand the apprehension of going lidless. It's like getting married and not having to wear a "jimmyhat" anymore.

I for one can say that it is a choice but I would wear one no matter what...Being in a life threatning accident I can honestly say that the lid was life saving so if NY Changes the law I would probably wear it anyways...New York is the HOME OF THE STUPID DRIVERS !!!

I think it depends on the area. Crowded downtown expressways in major citys scare me. I try to avoid them even in the cage. But I can understand that alot of accidents if they are bad enough the helmet would do no good. Besides, If you live your life sheltered, scared and take no risks whats the use in living? I mean don't be stupid crazy reckless...but you cant wonder around in a bubble your whole life either.
