Military? Bike Insurance? Not anymore.
My wife called USAA yesterday to add my new bike to our policy. I've been insured with them for over 25 years. They've covered my house, my cars, all of my motorcycles, boats & RVs.
Yesterday my wife was told that they will no longer be insuring "toys" and that is to include motorcycles.
Anyone else had this experience?

Yep, I think its happened about 2 years ago for me. They use to insure through a subsidiary but they have stopped that now also. I've been with them over 25 years.

I still have mine insured with them. But I have had the policy for five years now. When I asked back then they would not do a sports bike, only touring and cruisers. I guess those are too risky now.

My bikes have always been with USAA. Even in April 07, I added the wifes sportster, USAA was the one.
Then in Jan, I went to add the wifes new Heritage to repleace the sportster. They said no new bike policies, but they would continue to insure my Fatboy.
I had them drop the fatboy having two bikes on the new policy and one with USAA did not make sence. So now my Boat and all three bikes are with Progressive. Cars and house and RV are still USAA.

I just added my Road Glide to my policy back mid-March with no issue at all. Maybe it is a California thing.

Just curious if it is wriiten on a USAA policy or if it is underwritten by another insurance company?

if you HAD a bike for a long time, and have not dropped the bikes off,
then you are "grandfathered in"
if you have not had a bike, or dropped bike coverage.
then they make you get it through progressive or something.
USAA is the BEST car insurance period...my buddy went from $240 a month to $240 every six months by switching from Progressive to USAA.
now he just has to figure out the bike, so that's less savings.
I have been sued twice, and USAA will crush other lawyers.

I know they changed their underwriting recently, but I haven't checked it. I've had bikes insured with them for about 6 years now. Never a problem and they keep renewing. I called to change some policy stuff on my bikes and they gave me a new number to call since they don't do it themselves.
Now I just need to get around to doing it....

I've had all my insurance with them for years: 1 truck, 1 car, 1 Deuce, my house and my boat through their subsidiary. I added a 07 Street Glide last Dec with no problem. Just two weeks ago I called them and made some changes that affected all my vehicles and there was no mention of discontinuing coverage on bikes. That's California coverage too.
I live very close to where some big fires burned about 40 homes last summer. My friend who lives two blocks away had USAA drop them because of being in a fire zone right after the fires. I heard nothing. We think its because they went by zip codes. Even though I'm just two blocks away, I'm in a different zip..... go figger.
They are tough to beat on price and quality of coverage. I saved quite a lot when I switched to them on my bike from Progressive.

I just added my Road King last October in California. They had to look things up to see if they could do it. I thought it was odd since I had another bike on my policy. They ended up giving me coverage. Glad I could still use them they have always been good to go.

Have all my real estate, autos, and other personal property in Texas insured thru USAA since 1988, and never had a problem, until...
I called them to insure my new YZF-R6 in '03 and was sent to Drive Insurance underwritten by Progressive (Underwritten by USAA?).
Even in Fall '05 when I wanted to insure my '06 Night Train, USAA wouldn't touch it but I didn't get disappointed. Added it on the Drive policy and got the multi-bike discount.
So far, I've been pleased with Drive/Progressive, and pay $24.09/month for one H-D with full & underinsured coverage (did I mention I'm in Texas?) and a $250 deductible; haven't made a claim and no moving violations.
Dang, just jinxed it! Make that "yet"!
They send me reminders of the AutoPay from my account each month, but they don't fill up my inbox with a lot of nonsense.
Check 'em out.

No other insurance company has been able to touch USAA's rates on Auto or home owners insurance. It would be stupid to drop them, as it would cost me more than 400 more a year to go to the next closes competator.
Also, The progressive is thru USAA, and it is a lower rate than when I called progressive my self.
In Tenn it is something that started this year that they would not add additional bikes on to a pre existing motorcycle policy. They would keep existing bikes.
Progressive has a special number for USAA customers to call. Every time I talk to them about my boat or Bike insurance they imediatly ask for my USAA member number.

I have everything insured through USAA except my life and my bike. A SGM in my unit told me they insured their bike with USAA through a subsidiary. I thought they said it was Foremost but I could be wrong. Maybe they have a grandfather clause in effect.
My bike is insured through Progressive and I pay $215'ish/yr. No claims so I can't speak for their customer service but I suspect it's not as good as USAAs.
