Hmmmmm

Ok. I have a question. If your from out of state. Licensed, titled, and insured in a different state. Are the local 1000 dollar tickets even legal? What Im asking is if its legal for me to have verticle license plates in my home state how can I be ticketed in another?

Im sure that it will be done as it has been all over the rest of the US. But Its something I wonder about when Ive had six beers to many. Im also sure that it will cost somebody a ton of money to fight with a lawyer. But with a grand on the line I think that it may now be just expensive enough to actually hire one to fight that cause.

A little while back there was the very same concern with OTR truck drivers. One state would make something illegal and another would allow it but not something else. Such as length of trailers etc. So this would bring on something that you were only legal in one state. So as soon as you crossed into another state you were automaticly guilty of infringing on that states laws. What eventually came of it was that if you were on a federally finaced roadway you could be not ticketed or fined for operating a motor vehicle on that roadway as long as it was compliant with the states laws and federal laws it was from and it was no more than five miles from a federally funded highway or roadway.

I wonder how that applies here. I also wonder If I have had to much beer and am thinking to much into this.

Just food for thought and wonder what some of you smarter people think.

Fla & their laws Suck

Fla & it's laws ?? Yea they will ticket out of staters !!!! They look for you...
Most just pay the ticket. Which Fla wants anyhow.. Is it legal ??
I don't think Fla cares, just get the money..

After about 28 yrs living there I got the heck outta there.. They are getting more & more greedy. So just give any reason & you will get a ticket..

PS: Avoid Bike weeks there, if you have a bike that the VIN's even look a bit off.. If the theft squad gets ya, you will no longer have that bike..

That would be like me asking, If it's legal for me to ride without a helmet in Florida how can Georgia give me a ticket for it?

AMA did nothing about this AFAIK, but ABATE and a couple other entities lobbied to get this BS thrown out or at least reduced.

All of my friends have the same attitude-this is going to be referred to as a 'killer' law for people on 2 wheels that aren't 100% law abiding all the time. More $ for a crappy cash strapped state. I'm a Flori-Duh native, and am ashamed that I continue to reside in the SunTard State and want to leave forever.

While these laws were obviously targeting sport bike riders, we have to keep in mind it isn't the motorcycles themselves that are the issue, but those that ride them.

Do you think that these reckless fools on sportbikes would ride any differently on a cruiser? They would push the envelope as best as they could! There is still a reckless fool on the saddle, regardless of what kind of bike it is!

And while a cruiser can't pop a wheelie, they can still cruise at a high enough speed that one can technically be 50 MPH over a posted speed limit, although that would likely be a SCHOOL ZONE, ha ha ha ha. Totally seperate ticket for that as well!

If a motorcycle rider, whether it be a grizzled old Harley rider or a young twentysomething on a Hayabusa, cannot ride responsibly and (reasonably) abide by the laws, then they have no business riding a motorcycle. They are a danger to themselves and to others. Personally, think that all the states should make the introductory MSF course mandatory to getting a motorcycle license!

It isn't any different for the cagers, either. If the guy driving the Lamborghini or the lady in the SUV cannot drive responsibly and (again, reasonably) abide by the laws, then they shouldn't be driving a vehicle, either!

The vertical license plate thing is pure shite, IMHO!

Cheers
