Flat Rate Service Guide & detail?

Someone back in 1984 put out a guide ("unoffical") that described various different services to be performed on FL's and Sporties as I recall and then stated how much time, in increments, it should take a qualified Tech to complete the job...I think it would be real useful to have something like that in the modern era...Does anyone know of such a document? Or a www site that would have some level of detail on this subject?

Any thoughts?

- Jim

Yes the stealers have a flat rate book that they are using so one would have to think it's updated...

I'll ask a friend to see if he can get a copy from the dealer he does machining for... If I get it I'll send it to you...

from 2003. I havn't found a shop yet that will charge or even give an estimate based on flat rate. The times given are basically what the MOCO allows dealers and their mechanics to do a warranty job. The best i was ever able to compromise was to get a shop to split the diff between published flat rate and the actual hours charged on a bill. Expect to pay at least double the flat rate labor.

IronButt - That attachment is awesome (thanks!) and I'd like this thread now to continue so 1) we get better educated to talk with the Service managers at the dealers and 2) get real life experience/feedback from others based on the guide and other input. Again, these contris make this board great...thanks!

I just opened an American V-Twin parts and service shop. I would like to find a shop labor rate (flat rate) manual for Harleys. There was a vendor selling a similar book but I lost contact with them around the first of the year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Batt's Cycle, Boone, IA
