Dry Rot: how long did your dry SE Air filter last?

the gasket around the base just seems to deteriorate away

i have one on an 06 with 9k miles, and it's shot.

so i bought a used one off the forum, and the guy said he has been thru several of them, and no longer uses them because they rot away so fast.

what are your experiences?

dry rot

mine lasted about same as yours, it had the blue gasket and it fell apart.

it was replaced with one with black gasket and oiled filter media.
and it came from the Stealership.

I'm still on the 1st one on my '97 RK @ 76,500 miles.
2nd on my '94 FB @ 127,000 miles. Both black rubber..

But SE &/or K&N makes a "sealing grease" for the rubber, I use it & it seems to preserve the rubber very well.. Also my head breathers are externally routed away from air cleaners.

The one I got with the 'o2 carb stage one fell apart in a few months. I only put about a thousand miles on it. The dealer denied there has been any trouble with them and offered a small discount on a K&N and installation. Went with the K&N and it has been fine for 5K or so, much better deal.

Talking

Back in the 90's when I bought my SE kits only K&N filters were used..
Didn't know that subbed a cheep-0 in there.

K&N also has a 10 yr or million mile warranty. But might be lifetime by now ?
