How Do You Describe the Exhilaration of Riding?

In the current installment of The Gadget Guru Vision Blog, I attempted to address a common question that many of us have received, but have difficulty answering. Why do you ride a bike? What does it feel like? Forget for a moment I'm riding a Victory, this topic is the common denominator of all riders.

I'm sure we all know there is no simple answer. But today, I made my best attempt to probe deep into my mind to describe a feeling that we as riders know too well, but cannot explain to others.

This story starts in one direction, then gets to the point. Please be patient and take a read. Like my other posts, it's written in blog/diary style and as always I welcome all comments.

My question to you is: Is my description accurate? You be the judge.

To save you from scrolling to through my never ending story, here's the link directly to this post:

Please post comments here.

Thanks,

Andy (and Slick)

Didn't read the blog, at work and no time.

For me riding is like breathing, I can live without it for about as long as I can hold my breath.....

I generally explain it as the same feeling as riding horse across the countryside. You know, like in the cowboy movies.

Only on a road...

And it's a lot noisier...

And smells different...

And the motorcycle never tries to go back to the barn before I'm ready...

And although I always ask a horse, "why the long face", I never ask that about a motorcycle.

And of course there's no chrome on a horse - usually.

And I would never add LED brake and turn signal lights to a horse.

But other than those things, it's like riding a horse across the countryside.

Sort of...

Hey PalmBeachRider...thanks for sharing your blog. I enjoy reading about your bike experiences...Doesn't matter what brand of bike you ride, the blog is fun and entertaining to read.

I'm from Nashville so I remember you from a few years back. Sounds like Florida is treating you well.

Hi David. Thanks for the note. Nice bike! Yes, Florida is great...I hear you're getting snow today. Sorry. It's in the 80s here. I'll be updating the blog in a few days.

Hi Andy...

Thanks for sharing your "literary leisure". It was very well written and I really enjoyed it (thanks). You have a knack with the written word. I guess my only "constructive" feedback would be to replace rocket scientist with "Rockat Surgeon" and to increase the font size of: Life is good.

Sometimes for me it is the excitement of pulling into my driveway after a good long ride and saying to myself, "Yep, I made it home alive, again"!
When I continually hear of those who have had bike accidents, many times not the bikers fault, the fact how dangerous it can be hits home.

I'm not about to park my bike but once in a while I wonder if it wouldn't be safer to take up bull riding. Maybe that is why riding is so exhilarating? My senses are all tuned into what is going on around me, both the good and bad.

Lights seem brighter, smells seem stronger (sometimes too strong), temperatures are more extreme as we don't have a heater or air-conditioning, the dark is blacker and the eyes in the ditches are scarier.

I'm not thinking about what a rotten day I had at work or why the wife is mad at me or what the kids are getting into, I'm thinking about riding, enjoying it and getting home in one piece to ride again the next time.

Riding any motorcycle is more fun than driving any car.

Cruising is great but dropping down a gear and hitting the throttle is the greatest feeling

Well gosh..............It's gettin kinda corny in here

One guy was really worried about his perception of tennis shoes on a rider, another is blowing sunshine up your back side

pop ups and only a slight shadow of the once great DP
