The "twirl" sign. Even friendlier than a wave!

I was riding a 1999 Suzuki GSXR-750 (I know, not a Vtwin, but that's what I was on) doing well over 100mph. The road I was on was fairly straight but it had a lot of up and down type hills. Nothing extreme, just enough to lose sight over the next hill. I came over the top of one of the hills and a fellow biker raised his hand and twirled it in a 360 motion, very rapidly... I got the point! Johnny Law was just ahead. I would like to thank this kind soul for saving my butt! I am from California, and was somewhere in Utah on my way to Boulder, CO. That ticket would have sucked. I wave... and give the "twirl" sign if I've seen Johnny Law in the area.

I've never seen the "twirl" before. I usually pat my left hand on top of my head to warm oncoming riders that Johnny Law is up ahead; I've gotten the same sign from others.

Pat on the head is pretty much standard with the guys I ride with and the guys in our area.

I wonder what would have happened if that "fellow biker" had been going the same direction as you, on the same side of the lane, as you topped the hill at OVER 100 MPH. That guy was probably swirling his hand in a 360 beside his head to let you know you're crazy. Had you ridden that road before?

Around here patting the top of your helmet/head is taken as a friendly reminder to "turn on your headlight".

I have seen the 360° twirl to warn of "da man"

At first I thought "he doesn't appear to be trying to start anything". Until I saw this post did I realize your probably right.
