Are You One of the 60,000?

Are you one of the 60,000 HOG members whose credit card info was "compromised" when a laptop with the members info was stolen. I am and it sucks. My credit card's been cancelled and all I get from HOG is a letter of apology. My question is what the hell was confidential information doing on a laptop? I'm in the IT biz and only an idiot would allow confidential member information to be available anywhere but secure servers. Anyone in the same position. What are your thoughts?

You answered your own question.... I have not gotten a letter from HOG; the VA gave my info away, though. The a$$hats that condone or cause this stuff to happen need to feel some pain.

I got a letter from the VA as well when some dehey had his laptop stolen. The last letter I received from them said that all the information was recovered.

I think there needs to be some stricter laws when people have are confidential info, there should be know way it can be lost or stolen because some idiot takes it out of the work place on a lap top.

I only use Citibank virtual account numbers for any transaction that does not require a physical credit card. It can be set-up as a one-time charge, or you can set it up with a credit limit and a time limit... Helps alot with these types of bonehead mistakes. Some azzhat may have my home addy but my credit card number is worthless to him

JMS

PS. A number of credit card vendors are now offering this service, it is all free...

Twice Struck

I got the original letter from the VA AND and have received the MOCO HOG letter. I agree with restricting access to secure servers. There is no reason to put personal information provided in confidence to public entities on laptops. At least the MOCO is providing free credit monitoring. The VA did SQUAT. So much for looking after those who served.
