Is it not great to be able to write and say what we feel and not be persecuted for it,(GOD I Love this Country) except among our peers in fun.

I may not ever ride in Europe or the Far East, but I did live there for a number of years, and came away with many great memories, experiences and friends.
After reading the article, what I got out of it was not so much where this guy rode, but how he did it. In true Harley spirit, he just started riding, with no particular agenda in mind - and with no great plan each day regarding where he was going to be or sleep. Perhaps that was the spirit the editor was trying to inspire in everybody???
It inspired me to start thinking about where we're going to ride next season, and how, and we have been inspired to go on an extended trip to the States, and not work out any details ahead of time, with the exception of where all the dealers are.
As for the dude that's doing the writing - I believe he ended by saying he plans to end his ride in the US - at the 100th - I look at that as being a pretty big statement from him regarding what's important - not too many people on this forum have taken the time to enjoy their rides like he has ...
My 2 cents

I don't object to the articles about overseas rides, HOG Chapters etc but I do think too much magazine space is taken up with them and more should be devoted to riding in the U.S. I realize some people would like to ride overseas and that is why I do not object to some articles on overseas riding but the fact is there are more miles of roads and people, places and things to see here than any of us will ever have time to see and do. With the exception of military service probably 98% ( just my estimate, not an actual statistic ) will never leave these shores. I don't know if it will do any good or not but perhaps we should be writing to the editors of Hog Tales instead of ranting about it in here. My two cents for what it is worth.

Hmmmm, I have the Hog Tales Jan/Feb. right here... I see a whole three paragraphs about this Middle East H.O.G. Rally.... This is the first time I've ever noticed anything about the Middle East in Hog Tales but, then again I haven't been paying all that much attention... I quess if I was in the Middle East and I owned a Harley I would be interested in attending... There are also anouncements of International H.O.G. Events and tons of Stateside event's as well. There is a nice map of North America on pg.12/13 listing H.O.G. Events for 2003...
My Philosophy is the world would be a better place if, more people owned Harley Davidson Motorcycles... So, hell yes let a nice US based company like; Harley sell a s*itload of bikes to the Arabs or, Jews or, Asians or, Indians... I would like to be able to travel anywhere on the globe in style. I'm all for a Harley dealership in Afghanistan. I'd rather see them buying Harley's than AK-47's. I can think of no better way of spreading peace on planet earth or, increasing the value of my HD stock.......kjoe

kjoe,
I couldn't agree more...let them BUY Harleys instead of AK-47's...I'm sure they'd be a helluva lot less stressed about everything if they could just relax on a nice long putt like I do Wow..here's a whole new advertising campaign for MoCo....
