New York HOG Rally

I went to this rally for the first time last week. I have to say I was a little dissapointed. The pig roast was cheap cafe food. I was expecting a real pig roast outside with a spit roasted pig. I think they just baked it in the oven. Also it was very lighty attended and only six vendors were there. Maybe I was just expecting too much.

I'ver never been to a NYS Hog rally - glad I didn't go to this one. Was that typical of other rallies in the Northeast?

Brian, your right, it sucked. I was there, it seems there was little (if any) thought put into it. A couple of seminars and rides were canceled. I t was not hosted by the local Hog Chapter which is the Woodstock NY Chapter. It was hosted by a down state chapter.

My dad went and said the same thing. Luckily he only lives about 15 minutes away from the Friar Tuck. He said he spent a grand total of about 10 minutes there...got his pin...and left. He said that if he would have riden any significant distance to go there...he would have been really pissed.

Wink Not many replies

I see that not many people replied to this posting. Either not many people see this or they would rather not comment.

I did not go to this, but after seeing this thread I asked folks at my local that did go what they thought. They felt it was the worst rally they have ever been to. Many of them have been to all 19 that New York has held. They agreed that the weather was fine and the riding in the area was great, but the ride leaders were not. The cost of rooms was felt to be prohibitive and pushed numbers down. They felt the the rally last year in Geneva was much better even though it rained all weekend. That year the area Dealerships and Chapters worked together. This year the local Chapter (Woodstock) didn't even know it was happening until the announcement was made and they were not part of any of it. All they could do is make the best of a sad situation. A word about vendors - the only vendors allowed in are people who do not compete with the MOCO for money. That will limit who is there.

No one had an organized proposal for next year, so this same group whipped out a hand written deal to do it again next year. Other groups are trying to get Niagera Falls to do it as they did the first one and this will be the 20th year.

There is currently a movement afoot in NY to form a state wide commitee to do a number of things. Ensure that the rally moves around from year to year. The commitee would do the rally orginization (like deal with meeting halls and hotels, organizing speakers and vendors) and the hosts would do things like organize the rides, games and entertainment. All of this is still in the early stages.

Basically, I'm glad I went to Front Royal and rode on Skyline Drive. I bet I had a better time.

Hey I got an idea! you all come to the Oregon rally next year and I'll get some to come to NY and we'll ALL have a great time!! If the rallys suck we'll still all have one hell of a ride! (but all the oregon ones have been pretty good)

I was there. The weather was great (although hot). The only good thing other than seeing all the great bikes was the parade. That was a blast!

History of Catskill Game Farm

The Catskill Game Farm has been a family enterprise since its beginning in 1933. Millions of visitors have enjoyed the close contact of exotic animals in a relaxed, country atmosphere.

We exhibit approximately 2000 animals, representing over 150 different species from all parts of the world. Through careful conservation and extensive breeding programs, many endangered species have been preserved. Our efforts have enabled us to reintroduce nearly extinct animals back to the wild.

The Catskill Game Farm has been owned and operated by the Lindemann family for 70 years. Roland Lindemann founded this unique park in 1933. It started with a couple of white-tailed deer, donkeys, and sheep. He and his wife, Kathryn, continued to collect exotic species of animals. As the years went by, they added eating facilities, gift shops, animal food kiosks and amusement rides.

In 1958 the Catskill Game Farm became the first privately owned establishment to be recognized as a zoo by the United States Department of Agriculture. This status enabled them to import rare and vanishing species from around the world. The Lindemanns traveled the far corners of the earth in quest of new and unusual animals. The collection grew as huge importations arrived from Australia, Africa, and Europe. New sections for equines, bovines, birds, and African animals were added.

The special attraction at the farm will always be the contact areas where visitors may mingle amongst English fallow deer, donkeys, and baby llamas. Many people enjoy the opportunity to pet and feed these tame animals. Visitors delight in the animal nursery. Often the highlight of the visit is being able to bottle feed baby lambs, goats, and pot-bellied pigs. This has always been a favorite section at the game farm.

A half-mile train ride is available to take you through the bird garden and to the upper level. The train makes one stop by the cafeteria, and continues on to tour the rare goat collection. Memorial Day Weekend and July 1st through Labor Day, animal shows are presented daily.

The farm has a large cafeteria and snack bars throughout the park. Picnic facilities are also available. Parking is free.

Since 1989 the Catskill Game Farm has been owned and operated by the Lindemann’s daughter, Kathie Schulz, and her children Serena and Christopher.
