I have Progressive, and have used roadside assistance twice. Never had a problem, flatbed transportation to my house was there within 45 minutes.

rod side ins.

I checked around in ND and found I saved money and am covered for three vehicle drivers, my RV and my motorcycle & cargo trailer by going to AAA. Do some checking I think it is worth the work. Also check to see what the distance requirrements are BIRD

I've had AAA for many years, and while I've never had to use it while riding, I have used it it many times while on 4 wheels.
You need AAA plus to cover a bike, and that means 100 miles free towing, no matter if your driving your car or cruising on your bike.
It cost my wife and I just under 120 bucks a year for AAA plus and we are covered, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
A couple of years ago I think they changed the policy to only cover 4 incidents a year, to weed out people abusing the program.

I never heard about the 4 incedents a year but my rv and motorcycle are a add on rider type of thing. 112 per year and all are covered. My wife my daughter and me plus the camper and the motorcycle. If i never use it it is still cheaper then a membership to HOG and thier road side program which only covers the bike.

I have had Progressive thru 2 wrecks 2 yrs back- their service was outstanding, around here Dairyland is the company to avoid- It may just depend on who is on staff in your location- having a car person do bikes is very much a PITA. A bike guy did mine (he primarily does bikes first cars second)

The AAA example of area coverage is right on the head. With all plans you have to deal with calling a 1-800 number to a center that doesn't know squat about where you are.

When I come across someone needing a AAA tow, we call the local AAA company, let them know we have one, and they can usually show up about the time the call centere lets them know they have a call.

Same deal with all the bike roadsides. Not very many outfits set up to tow bikes (at least the right way), so how is some telephone operator gonna find what ain't there.

The big up side is when you're traveling, anyone with a phone book and some information for where you're at is better than what you got on the side of the road.

All this at 4:30 in the morning.

Needless to say, I think I'm looking into alternatives. Maybe I'll give the HOG plan a shot.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I, however, had a very pleasant experience with Progressive. I needed to have my bike towed from my house to my mechanic who lives 40 miles away. No problem there. 15 minutes after I had placed the call asking for towing they called back and told me when to expect the tow truck. It got to my house right on time. Picked up the bike and delivered it to its destination. No problems. When I got home there was a message from Progressive asking if I'd had any problems with the towing. All in all, I couldn't have asked for better and more speedy service.

I just had occasion to use the Hog Roadside Assistance Plan for the 1st time. I've had it for years but never used it. I was on my way home to Mississippi from Daytona Beach on the bike pulling a N-line one wheel trailer. I had just put a new rear tire on in early Feb. It went flat about 20 miles east of Tallahassee on I10 on a Saturday. When I checked it by the side of the road, I could see a nail of some type in it. Cranked the bike up and rode slowly to the next exit (about 2 miles). Called the outfit. A flat bed wrecker was there within the hour, we loaded the bike and trailer (trailer is not covered by the way but wrecker guy had no problem taking it) and took the bike to HD shop in Tallahasse. Probably a 15-20 mile ride. Another new tire later and I was back on the road in a couple of hours. Service was fine by me. There was some confusion at first because of the change in interstate exit numbers in Florida. They changed all exits numbers sometime back and it's still confusing some people. Based on this experience, I'd recommend it.
