Sportster seating options, help needed
Hey... new member here, riding a new 2005 Harley Sportster 1200C.
I love the bike, but think my ride in respect to personal comfort would be improved by finding a seat that is not as plush, perhaps more streamlined and lower to the ground. I am not too sure how to describe the effect I am looking for, other than wanting it to catch my butt better and allow me to sit at least one if not two inches closer to the ground.
Any suggestions, thoughts, recommendations would be appreciated.
I have seen some la perla seats on ebay that seem ok, but have not seen one in person.
Cheers!

Rather then change the seat... change the shocks. Put some 11' shocks on it and that will drop you like 2". Then you can still get you a nice comfy seat and be lower.

I know exactly what you mean. I have an 04. The stock seat was not only hideously uncomfortable, it also felt like I was going to slide right off the back. Everyone hates the stock seat.
The two most popular seats for the Sportsters are the Mustang solo and Corbin solo. Mustang is the overwhelming favorite, from what I have gathered at my Sportster sites. I have the Corbin solo with removeable backrest, and it is an awesome seat. It was comfortable from day one. It extended my riding time from about 45 minutes to 2-3 hours between stops. Corbins are one of the most expensive seats out there, but IMO they are worth every penny. Either way, if you want to order a seat, get it at Direct Parts. They have the best pricing on the net.

I bought my wife an '05 XL1200C. I put the Moco Reach solo seat on it. She loves it, it brought her closer and lower.

I switched my ’05 XL 1200 Custom to a Corbin Solo leather seat. I read a lot about the Mustang Vintage solo as well. Both are supposed to be nice, low, wide and comfortable. The Corbin solo feels great, no doubt about it. It positions you better and supports you better. It may be a bit lower than stock and it may put you back an extra inch. It defiantly supports your backside better. I also went with a H-D layback license plate holder since the solo seat shows a lot more fender.

I am looking for a passenger addon as we speak

I have a mustang studded seat and bought the passenger seat that goes with it as well. It came with a removable backrest, which I hardly ever use. My 04 883 sportster had already been lowered when I purchased it. So with this set up, it feels like I am setting in a saddle with great comfort. I hold lot different ride. Even my husband tells me what a difference and he has a 03 883 sporty. I even changed out my handlebars to deuce in order to get me a better way of reaching out while riding. This allowed me to sit back much better since my arms were a little shorter then the usual person would have. I have heard a lot about the corbin seats as well, but like the way mustang looked and feels.
I agree with buying it direct from the manufacturer. Much cheaper and they have sales too.

While mine is an older 1998 so the seats are somewhat different it came with a Pillow Top seat and a Badlander, one fugly and the other just uncomfortable.
I picked up a Corbin Gunfigher and later added a Lepera Silhouette Solo and both are a huge improvement over what I had.
Gunfighter.
Lepera Silhouette Solo (Not the Bare Bones Solo)
I also have the Progressive shocks set at the second lowest position.

Mustang Vintage Classic.
Like night and day!
Can be used solo or with the pillion.
Excellent advice on the rear shocks, too!

I am 5'4" and lowering the shocks made a HUGE difference. 1" smaller shocks lowers the bike closer to 2" due to the angle. Now I can flat foot, whereas before I couldn't. And for $275 or so, was a fairly inexpensive option. Also didn't have to touch the front forks.
