New rider.. Join HOG?

Hello all,
I am a new harley rider. Just got my first bike, 1976 FLH. What are some of the benifits that would come from joining HOG? Is this group mainly for seasoned riders? Also I am in Arizona, around Phoenix. Any one from that area and in HOG?
Thanks,
FGC

Nice ride - congrats! I got back into riding last year after a long "dry" spell. I was encouraged to join HOG by my dealer, and it was a great move. Met lots of great people, went on a few rides, met a few people that live around me and we do some evening cruises etc. You will find some HOG's are better than others - but at the end of the day if you want to meet other bikers who share your interests, give it a shot.
Welcome, and post often!

HOG isn't just for experience riders.

I just let my HOG membership expire after my first free year when I bought my bike. I'm not renewing. Other than the magazines I didn't get much out of it. To me it's not worth $40/yr. And they also want you to join a local HOG chapter as well.

I've found people to ride with through other sources such as the internet, a co-worker, and meeting the friends of my riding buddies.

Enjoy the new bike and ride safe.

Nice bike! Do you buy from a local Harley dealer? Most give at least a 10% discount if you are a HOG member. Before you commit $40, you might want to visit a local HOG chapter meeting and see if you enjoy. You don't have to join to attend a meeting.

Then you can confuse all the new riders who think HD has only made twin cams.

Nice ride ............yellow is my favorite color I am in the process of looking for a new bike .........very hard decision between a heritage classic and a roadking classic. Once I get it I will more likely join Hog

H0ly crap that is one nice lookin ride!!!

As far as joining HOG -that seems to depend on your local chapter and how receptive and active they are. Some chapters are like little cliques while others are really cool! It's a roll of the dice.

I don't like the fact that you *have* to be a National HOG to join the Local HOG! Just seems like a sham to me!

You can also meet plenty of fine folks at your local events, goto your local dealer for some event schedules.

Your local HOG should allow you to attend a few meetings -it will give you a chance to feel them out.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

So, did you post just to make us all green with envy? Very nice bike you've got there that's for sure.

Joining HOG can be a good thing. I didn't know any other riders in my area so I joined in order to get to know people. It's been great for me. I usually ride alone or with a good friend, but every now and then it's fun to join up with 20-30 other riders and go on a road trip. I'm not much for the Ride&Dine type events, but day trips and over nighters can be lots of fun. If you already have friends who are riding then HOG may not do much for you.
