Question

I have a question for all of you. I've been trying to sell my 03 Softail Standard for about 4 months now with no nibbles. Anyone know what a fair price would be. I don't know if I'm too high or not. It only has 2500 miles and has close to $1000 worth of accessories. I never have time to ride with two small kids and I hate to see it sit. I'm asking $13,500. Is that too high and if so, what would be fair to both the buyer and myself?

Thanks

The only thing I can comment is I was trying to sell an 05 Fat Boy with about the same amount accessories with 20K on the clock for 13K. Not one call!

I ended up trading it at the dealer and got 12K they now want 15.6K for it. They may have it awhile!

I think the market is really soft right now..Why I do not know. I am not sure if people want the newer 6 speeds and 95 inches....Or its just a flooded market with used bikes. I am thinking the latter, because there is tons of HDs for sale at what I think are terrific prices, and I think its a buyers market for what ever reason at the moment.... I did not answer you specifically....Buts that my own experience out here in Oregon.

Thanks. I kind of got the same feeling down here. I had one dealer e-mail me saying the same thing about the 6 speed and 95". He wanted to give me $9,000. Anyway, thanks for the opinion.

I watched 7 2003 Heritage Classics on ebay. All with as much or more bling as your standard. Average sale price was right at 13K.
If you believe ebay is an indicator then I would guess 13.5 might be high in today's market.
I'm trying to sell my Heritage and find the market to be extremely soft.

Look at the relative value...you could probably go out and find an '07 leftover for $14K...with a two year warranty, bigger motor, 6 speed, wider tire. That stuff has gotta be worth 3 or 4 thousand to a buyer. I'd try asking $11,900 and take any offer over $10K. Your accessories generally won't add much value...maybe a couple hundred bucks.

I honestly do not think the 07's have affected the 06 models & below that much. There are a lot of 07's still for sale, so people are not going nuts over the 6th gear and additional 8 CI's...I think it's just the glut of HD's that are available that have created the soft "buyers" market. I also believe the days of low to no depreciation on a HD are long gone...saturated markets tend to bring that out irregardless of the product.

Good luck in getting 'er sold..

Here's a Reference point

Well, here is a reference point (although I am not in Texas, but shouldn;t be far off). I bought my 06 Standard (injected), with about 1000 dollars worth of add-ons(chrome engine package, SE slip-ons,etc), almost a year of warranty left, from a dealer about 2 moths ago for 12.5

I would agree with SteveDD, I think. The intial hit seems to be higher than ever with the depri$ , sucks to be the original owner if you are selling now, it seems.

Still damn good trade in value if you compare it to anything else. The market has now become "normal". It was bound to happen someday. Used Harley's are now just like any other used motorcycle, but just a bit better, still. I just bought a mint 2002 Road King with a couple thou worth of accessories. Original fussy owner with 6k miles for 12k, and I think that was about a thousand high, but it was exactly what I was looking for in every way so I gave him a premium. He started out wanting 15k.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm not looking to make anything, I just wanted to make sure that my price was what was fair from an "outsiders" point of view. I'll try adjusting my asking price. Thanks again.

Same thing here in Colorado. Price has gone down a bit, and a while back HD MOCO was offering 3% financing on new bikes. Don't know if they still are or not. Also agree that add-ons don't do much for resale. If you have any worthwhile extra parts sell em on ebay, and put original parts back on, make a few extra $$ that way.

the market is definitely soft...supply finally caught up with demand. It hasn't been that many years ago that if you wanted a new Harley, your name went on a waiting list...now you can buy just about any model right off the showroom floor, WITHOUT paying dealer mark-up.

I think I lucked out with my Springer...the original owner bought it May 06, paid nearly $21k out the door....he added about $1500 in add-ons and I bought it from him for $16k with less than 2k miles on it a couple months ago.

Some may think I paid too much but I sure don't feel that way....the previous owner saw the 07 Screamin' Eagle Softail Springer and my 06 suddenly paled in comparison...so we both got what we wanted.

Use KBB.com and NADA.com to see what the bike is worth. Then look at Craigslist, Ebay, Cycle trader and see what your model is actually selling for. Some think their bike commands full retail price and they will never get it. The market is saturated with bikes. Someone looking for a bike, will find the model they want, with all the stuff they want already on it, at the price they buyer wants to pay. That is how I got my RG...I waited.

I have an 02 Ultra that I have had listed on CL for several months. I have it at a low price and have only gotten a few hits.

Anyone watching the news? were in or headed to a recession , people aren't buying any "toys" or luxury items now. Just had a big boat show here in AC and they were saying boat sales are way down. Had all kinds of discounts and special financing etc.
