Ride Home

Is the ride home only for HOG members? Also where can you get more information about join up points etc?

The Harley website has a general map and listing of all the current start points.... nothing more specific yet. The site says that more info will be posted soon.

They did something similar for the 100th anniversary.... did anyone here do that ride? If so, what was it like? How did they handle logistics & organization? Was there an accomodation package to purchase or is everyone on their own?

Well actually, it is "Ho". Isn't one of the trails home named after him????

OK, this may be one of the "old guys" jokes.

Can anyone recommend a "reasonably priced" hotel in the area? I'm considering going myself........

Should be quite the party........

Depends on how expensive you consider reasonably priced, and what sort of ammenities you're looking for. There's some small independently owned motels scattered around the region within 30 miles or so of downtown Milwaukee. Plus some chain-type hotels. (Hmmm, that sort of reads funny.)

Look around Jackson, Port Washington, Saukville, Fredonia, Grafton, West Bend, Belgium, Random Lake for the motels north of Milwaukee. You'll be parking your bike outside in most of them though. The chain-type hotel in Port Washington (either Holiday Inn or Best Western, they recently changed ownership in the last year or two) is right by lake Michigan, has a local news station weather camera on it's roof, and it seems lots of bike rally groups set up camp there for events.

These are probably your best chance for a budget and not staying in a tent or backyard.

There was some blurb on the local news last night about the 105th tickets, but I missed what it was about. Hopefully it won't be sold out and I'll be able to still get my tickets in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know the total number of tickets available and what the current sold/available ratio is?

I did the 100th ride home from Portland. Each day's ride was relatively short 250-400 and there was food and stuff at the dealerships along the way. Billings, Montana closed the downtown area for a street party that was just a blast. Things like that all along the way. I think I will jump from route to route next year but I have reservations in Milwaukie already and am coming home on rt66. Should be a blast- and yes Elton didnt quite fit- but when Kid Rock jumped up on his piano the look on Elton's face made the whole thing worth it!!!

geezerglide, did they have pre-paid accomodation packages for the ride, or was is fend-for-yourself whenever the day's ride was done?

You will know where the ride stops each night. I think they might have had some blocked out with HOG rates, but I think we just booked our own if I remember right. Except in Milwaukie!! One of our guys was almost to Chicago to get a motel. The locals in Milwaukie were absolutely great. Looking foward to it!

How do they handle stuff like this? Do they restrict you if you are not signed up for the specific ride route, or do you just need a H.O.G. membership to join in? If I get a yard pass I might try to see how many routes I can intersect along the way, would be nice to do another cross country run, but can't handle the short daily distances. I"m not looking to crash the route for free food, and not looking to join in the parade lines, just wondering what the rules are.

re: the local small motels: I'll try to gather up some local contact info and will post what I find once I get it, but give me a day to three weeks.

Don't they have 105 starting points. They have to start convering several state out. I.e coming from north west your with coming 90 or 94 from the south you either riding through Chicago or swinging west through Madison then still coming in on 94. No way they would have color coded wristband or any other "control measure" like the actual rally.
