Screw them.
I have never been dropped to the lower level, no mater how much I have used the service. If you were dropped to the lower level of AAA service, you must have just been a member for a short time and used the service a lot.
I have been AAA from 1982. I went to Plus when it first became available. I went Premier when it came up too. I have used it for my Harley twice and my cage (both car and truck with 5th wheel attached several times. I had my motor blow on my truck towing my 5th wheel in Texas. I had to be towed 92 miles to the nearest AAA shop. The Harley and Recreation Vehicle are included in the same additional class coverage. It is the best coverage of any plan or tow service offered by anyone, including HOG (IMO).
If you had a problem, look at the way you have used it.

Lucky?

Wow! I must have been lucky using the HOG tow service. My bike broke down in a cemetary after a PGR escort. Thirty minutes after I called HOG, a tow arrived and carted me to my indy. That's my only experience, but it was a good one.

If you have Progressive Insurance, they have tow service included. I have used it on 2 seperate occasions.

Same here, no issue with HOG road service. Snapped drive belt 50 miles from home, called. 40 minutes, guy came from 30 miles away in another state, lots of follow up calls during and after by HOG service. Towed it to my house (no stealer for me), which I think is against the policy? Great guy, too, treated my bike like it was his own. Used faux fur lined tie downs fer chrissakes. Not a rub mark or scratch on it. Guess it depends on the sub-contractor. But I was impressed, HOG called 5 or 6 times: "he's coming here's his number", two calls "is he there yet", "everything going OK?, and two follow up calls late in day from dispatcher and a HOG call center supervisor, one next day to rate the subcontractor.
