custom paint sets
Saw this on another forum. the moco is telling dealers to reduce their inventory of custom tank/ paint sets. Also the moco is offering to pay 250 dollars towards installation.Could this mean in 08 you can order a custom set allready installed on the assembly line ,??

maybe, but how can it be custom if there are 100 to 200 copies out there? That would make them conversions, like the conversion vans, they are not custom when they duplicate the same thing over and over. If I were over-paying for a paint job, I would want mine to be the only one, you know custom, made to order. HD wanted $2500 for a burgundy flamed set. My customer got this one for $1500.

The difference, my fames were outlined, HD set was not, my bar and shield is painted on, HD set was a decal, my set has shadows under the flames, HD set did not, my set you can't feel any lines at all, HD set you can feel the lines of the decal. HD set is numbered, mine is not because this is the only one.
Is the stock HD paint better than mine? I don't think so, I feel theirs is inferior to mine. Why? because my name is on it.
Even with a discount from HD, a custom set is cheaper at a good custom shop, and its a true custom job, made to order.

I'm upset that I didn't have the guy who painted mine do a 1/1 on the corner of my tank.
Nice work you did there and a very reasonable price.

... before 15% tax
..agree that they are mass produced , so not really custom

Could it be that they are chaging the bikes and the old fenders won't fit?

I agree with your comments, however around here a paint job like that is close to $3500. Nice job on the paint!!

I'm somewhat biased, but I think the factory paint sets look like shitt. Why would you spend that kind of money on a cookie cutter paint job when you can get a one-off paint job for the same price? I have $2400 in my paint job but that included shipping both ways, new front fender, and smoothed rear fender.

Some of the paint sets I've seen have been nice but I think something original is the only way to go. If you can afford the bike off the road it'll cost you less and will be yours.
