I've ridden several V-Rods and I've ridden ONE Ducati Diavel. IMO The Diavel is everything the V-Rod isn't.
Fast, light, balanced, good looking (subjective I know), and fast, light, well balanced.
Did I mention fast light, and well balanced?

What a FRIGGIN machine! If I ever buy another bike that's not a HD it'll be a Diavel.
Sonofabitch is like riding a laser beam.

MNVrod wants to know Dino or Syn?
I have a 2015 Night Rod I bought in July last year and have 16k miles on it already with two long distance trips. I went from a 1978 Super Glide to this and I love it. Oh and it will run with sport bikes and beat some of them in the 1/4 but you will be comfortable doing it. Had it at the Tail of the Dragon last month from northern MN 3400 miles in a week.
Ran mine last night at the local strip with a few mods I ran 11.6 @ 115, 11.7 @ 117 and I am slow off the line.

I beg to differ. The local dealer is selling 2017's and I was informed that 17 will be the last year.

Such a shame though. The v-rod is a great bike and is quite capable of a lot. Sure, it won't be a favorite of the folks who love the air cooled engines/motorcycles. But from what I know of the development of the v-rod, it was designed to attract new people to the brand (a "younger generation" I believe was the term used).

I used to work at the local dealer and out of all the bikes there, the v-rod was my favorite; followed by the 1200 nightster and street glide.

October 2016 would make them 17 model year bikes. Guys who work there say most of the assy line is already gone.

No more mention of V-RODS (from the website)

Kansas City employees produce the SportsterŽ, DynaŽ and StreetTM families of motorcycles, along with select SoftailŽ models, from fabrication and finishing through final assembly to include the liquid-cooled Revolution XTM powertrains for the Street motorcycles.

I traded in my 2010 VRod Muscle almost 2 years ago and regret it every sunny day. Too many times I had to tell the "real" bikers what it was and the looks on their faces when I told them it was in fact a Harley were priceless. Hadn't they ever seen a VRod in the dealership?

The best moment on the Muscle was in Myrtle Beach for BW in 2014 when some guys in hot-rodded baggers wanted to test me at a red light. I still remember the look of their headlights in my mirrors.

I hope the discontinuation doesn't drive the used prices up because I plan to replace it one day.

There were a lot of dealerships that would not, nor could not work on the VRSC line. I was all together a different animal from the norm for them, and was heavily influenced and has Porsche's hand prints all over the internals. Taking a V-Rod to a Harley Dealer was like "Taking a Porsche to a Chevy Dealer"

I imagine Chrysler had problems with the Crossfire (Mercedes with Chrysler Badges) as well

I've changed my mind on it recently. I now see it as an option, not so much a bastard. I think the v-rod could be cool, it could have potential but I think they've got is stuffed in the wrong chasis. I feel like they could do a couple of things and really make something great out of that power plant. First would be a bagger, I mean full on ultra classic with that engine, it would be perfect, power, water cooling, etc it could be a great seller. Second would be a sport or sport touring bike, something that will handle well and be able to use the power.

I've been on a few v-rods and the thing that always strikes me is how awkward they feel to sit on and how heavy the steering feels. Harley has a good base, they just seem to be doing the wrong thing with it. Like the v-max, tons of power but it can't be used to it's potential.
Great points! I felt the same until I rode one. Now I loved my 03 Fat Boy but after spending 5K doing a motor I just dont have the cash today. So for a old man (69) who loves speed and has to have the foreword controls for comfort I spent the 7K today for a 06 V Rod. Now on to some good sounding pipes for it.
