Unhappy Laid Her Down

Hello

Decide to take my 03 out on the morning of the 31st. Went around the bend and notice wet roadway. So I slowed it down to about 5-10 mph. Unfortunately it wasn't enough . The back end swung to the right and we were sliding out 2-3 feet. Picked her up and started looking over the damage. Didn't seem that bad, shatter left rear view mirror, little scuff on the rear shocks bruised egoand clutch/foot rest was bent up/inward. Didn't really see the actual damage till in the garage. Notice the lower elbow of the frame was bent in. I'm no mechanic, but it seem like I can put the bike on a rack and unbolt the four screws (and couple misc. attachments) that ties into the other part of the frame. Just thought I get some input. Thanks in advance.

The flat bar you see in the upper right of the photo is a motor mount. Its a bit tricky to get off. Check the engine case for a hairline crack. I found one on mine - At the suggestion of the HD repair mechanic, I put a bit of JB weld on the crack. Better than $7500 p&l for new cases! That was 1000 m iles ago - no sign of any problems. The frame part is about $125. Be sure to state the year - they changed the paint/clearcoat for '04.

Something similar happened to me only on the right side. I remember being so freaked when that happened, but its simple to replace. The worst thing about my damage was that I had to rebuild the rear brake master cylinder and bleed the line.

That sucks, glad you weren't hurt. I remember laying down my bike about 10 yrs ago when I hit a patch of loose stuff turning onto a side road. Took my wife over an hour to pick the gravel out of my knee.

Exclamation

i have both frame lowers for sale. i was hit by a drunk 5 months ago & they replaced the frame because there was a scuff 3 inches long on left side. the frame is not bent. they had to cut the neck off & send to h-d before h-d would send a new frame. the frame is also for sale if anyone out there wants to weld on a new neck, & maybe rake it out for a radical custom.
actually i have other parts that a saved. they should be on e-bay soon.

Cool

it is the 2003 2 tone 100th annv. the bike will be running next week. i have a bunch of parts that have very minor scuff marks for sale. insurance paid for everything, so the dealer found any minor imperfection & replaced the part. bike fell on left side, so the left shock has a tiny dent on top, so they replaced both. the front cyl head has a small scuff where the plastic horn cover hit it, so they replaced it. rear pulley has a 2 inch long scuff on the edge. perfect for someone to polish & have chrome plated. while the bike was apart, i had them install the 28 tooth pulley, so i am selling the original 30 tooth pulley, rear pulley & belt. bike had 3,300 miles at time of accident. parts will be on e-bay soon.
