Poor handling in wind

Is it the wheels only or a design problem? I have poor handling going into the wind or especially when following semi's down the interstate. The front end wants to wander all over the place and it does not make for a relaxing ride. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After a while, you won' t notice. Lead, don't follow.

sfarson is on a distinguished road
I think it is what one is used to. My plastic sided, fairing equipped (read barn door), high and lightweight sportbikes take more concentration in crosswinds or blustery conditions than the V-Rod. When it is especially windy here in Colorado, I grab the grips a little more firmly but I 'm not rigid in the arms. I look ahead for clues... vehicles, grass, trees so I'm not surprised by a gust or blast of wind.

You will get used to it! Just relax and even know it feels weird at first you will come to a time when you dont even notice it most times.

Experience coupled with maybe a safety course will help. The solid disk wheels will catch a crosswind and push you around, but that is natural. You could always buy ($$$$) new wheels.....
Luck, and be safe! Welcome to the best H/D forum on the web!

Wind

My wife and I both experienced the wobble too. We both purchased PM wheels and have no problem at all with wind problems.

you can also get a windshield,i got the hd touring one.
helps alot on the e-way,bike handles and seems more stable at high speeds with a windshield.

I appreciate the responses. I do have a touring windshield, however the bike does wander unlike any other bike I have ridden (only in turbulent air conditions). Do not get me wrong, I enjoy the bike very much, but was just curious if other people have corrected this with wheels or had any other recommendations.

I also had the same problem and changed the front wheel to an open spoked wheel....over 2000 miles since the wheel change and have experienced no wobble or drifting since....well worth the money!!! A safer ride too!

Behind trucks, in dirty wind, the bike oscillates. The best solution is to pass the offending truck.
