Well... I May Be Leaving You
Put my bike in a local show (took third) and put a for sale sign on it at 20k and got a TON of bites, one inparticular who wants it badly. Im thinking about going to a Screaming Eagle Deuce. Still researching it a bit here, next stop is these forums to see what people here think of the Deuce. Oddly enough, I didnt like the bike because of the rear fender, but the V-Rod got me to liking it If anyone has any useful feedback on the Deuce, feel free to share. Everyone I talked to, who owns one, likes them so far.
Why? Well, I love the V-Rod, its speed, its style, but it aint cutting it.
1: I stop too often because my butt hurts or I need gas.
2: My right leg always steaming hot.
3: 4200 RPMs at about 72 MPH is ridiculous.
4: Might be a few other quirks, but it all comes down to the ride.
I guess the bottom line is that I really want to do more riding then the V-Rod was designed for, but I aint ready for a Road King sized bike either. If it goes, it could be a matter of a couple days. Ill miss it a bit for its sporty styling and handling, but I wanted to thank you guys too for all the help you have given me here and just the chat. Heres some pics of the pic with the newly added chrome swingarm, pulley and handlebar items. It also has the Ozzy Customs chrome body kit and decals http://www.ozzycustoms.com Cant say enough about how beautiful the chrome job he did is.

Tim, you're still welcome to check in here whenever you like.
We're glad you could share your V-Rod experiences with us. You've been part of pretty elite club. I'll still talk to ya' even if ya' don't ride a Rod. Now, let's see if you talk to me after my next bike. LOL

Test Drive before you buy/sell
I've demoed just about every model H-D makes. My dealer has thrown me the keys every time I've been in for whatever issues. He's a great businessman and knows I'm a buyer waiting to happen (again).
Every time I come back with his Duece/Heritage/RC,Dyna,Fatboy etc, I always ride away knowing my V-Rod is head and shoulders above and beyond any other model. Sure the range is poor and it needs a 6th gear. At least it doesnt handle corners like a truck and brake like an old station wagon:p
If you're truly an unhappy owner (it sounds like a poor match to me anyway) then by all means unload her to the highest bidder and get what makes you happy. Just make sure you don't kick yourself afterwards for parting with the superior bike. Rent a Deuce for the weekend and see if the grass is really greener. No scoot is perfect and I'm sure there will be issues with that soft tail rear end that will leave you wondering what you were thinking. Just my humble opinion.
Let us know what you end up with. Either way, you can still chat with us.

I agree with Rhauft (that's a first!) I'm not so sure you're going to like the way the duece handles as much as you like the way it looks. I think you should wait and see what the rumored touring version with the revolution engine is going to look like. For that matter, with what you're going to pay for that SE Duece, you may want to consider having a custom built just the way you want it. Either way i'm just glad i won't be parking next to your damn chrome vrod anymore.

My buddy bought a Duece and I the V-Rod. The first time we rode together we went at it at a light. By the time I shifted into third he was so far back.... he right away commented on how maybe he made a mistake with his purchase. Since then, I have lowered mine, drag bars, 29 tooth pulley, SE1 flash and filter, V-mods, etc etc and after all the attention and hoopla he has had it and put his Duece up for sale and has a V-rod on order. Just food for thought.

My butt is killing me. This after a mere 350mi over two days - on a Corbin seat! The stock Intruder seat was even worse - much worse.
Perhaps this is just the nature of riding.
Comes down to what you want.
If you want the Deuce and can swing it, go for it.
Better yet, keep the Rod and have them both.
Whatever you do, do it for yourself and enjoy.

I haven't ridden a Duece, but I would like to comment on your 4 points.
1. I have the Wille G. seat, and this weekend I put 520 miles on it. It was surprisingly comfortable. I don't mind stopping every hour and a half to refuel the bike and get a drink.
2. I am 5'7" and haven't had that problem. I also have reduced reach controls which put the pegs out more.
3. I totally agree! The VRod needs a 6th gear. And IMO, 2nd and 3rd gear are too close together.
4. Other quirks, like the ear to ear grin when you twist the throttle, bikers always saying "Nice Rod" no matter what they are riding, people giving you a "thumbs up" from thier car, front yard, etc... , that damn silver frame (it would be so much easier for me to make a "Night Rod" if it was black), the gas tank guage (1/8 tank left and can only put in 2.5 gallons?).
Either the bike is "you" or it isn't. I had a Sportster before the 'Rod, and it just wasn't "me". Try 'em all out, see what fits

Well, I didnt mean to debate point for point what one or the other likes I have owned softails and am looking at the SE deuse because it already has all the chrome, lowered, 1550 kit, cams, V&H pipes and more, so it has the added horsepower and handling and looks I want. I bought the V-Rod when I had sunk money into the appearance and needed a lot more for horsepower, so seemed like a good idea. I think for all the research Harley did on this bike, they certainly got blind on a few items. Lets be real, if I wanted killer race bike handling and horsepower, i would not go to a Harley dealership, unless you think fast ends at 135 mph, though the V-Rod does handle beautifully.
Its not a done deal yet... Depends if this guy calls tommorow and if I decide I want the Deuce. Its been weighing on my mind for a few days. The Deuce needs a hydraulic clutch desperately, after riding the V-Rod, I cant imagine pulling that thing all the time

So, if it was me riding with him on, say my buddies R1, he would be riding a Yamaha now?
Theres always someone faster.... Unless your SuperKaz.

How much is Kaz paying you.....I dont think he is the fastest....probably your buddy on his "rocket" is faster, although maybe not now with nitrous...isnt Kaz chasing Trip Nobles or something, regardless, you missed my point. It was a combination of speed, acceleration, looks, technology, drooling onlookers, quick handling (for a non-sport bike) and whatever else he chose to make his decision that made him switch. For roughly the same money (not a Screamin Eagle) he thought his Duece was an inferior bike from a technological and performance perspective, and therefore concluded that he made a hasty decision thinking more that traditional "old school" riders would look down on the new bike instead of saying "who gives a f*ck". So he went with a tried and true 45 degree and ended up unsatisfied. Now is this to say that one is better over the other, or that faster is better, or that someone who likes tradional air cooled over advanced tech is wrong....no, not in my opinion. All I said is that he decided to sell his Duece and get a V-rod. Someone asked for opinions and thoughts and I shared mine....

I'd say you owe to yourself to first try the bike without the gawd-aweful stock seat, and maybe with some dragbars. If I was stuck with just the stock seat I know I'd be getting rid of it REAL fast. But like the others have said, I all boils down to getting the ride you want!

Well Tim I'm not a Duece fan myself but if thats what you like then I wish you good luck. It's not like you couldn't find another V-Rod if you changed your mind later. I hope that even if you do the deal that you will continue to post here, lord knows we need more geeks.

Brother It's true that the stock seat s@#ks, could use another gear, needs a bigger fuel tank and more leg room for the tall guys. But one plus with the Deuce you will have a GLIMPS of the back of that Vrod. Rent it to see if you like it, that is cheeper and you dont have to ride that crow sandwich, Good luck

Nice choice
I think the SE Duece is one of the best bikes HD has built to date. You can't go wrong either way. Good luck on your decision.
